Thanks Dave.

Well I have a 5000 Tach so that matches. There was chat on here

where someone had stated the bigblocks should have 5500 tachs.

I believe it was Sam that said it could be either, he was/is right.

I think the 5500 BB and 5000 SB theory stands true.

Although I do know of another member with a 70 SS454 who has a 5000, and another with a 6500 in a 71. I just always chalked them off to " you don't stop a production line if you don't have the right part....you use the next available best thing" or just worker error on the assembly line.

But your car and build sheet confirm that it occurred intentionaly confused unless the 938 in your build sheet block was also some sort of production error, that may have occurred for a period of time long enough result in more than a handful of BB's with 5000 redline tachs

.....and keep us all guessing and speculating 38 years later wink

BTW great looking car and truck you have there.

Jake:

That is priceless!!! I KNOW how over-joyed youare and giddy it makes you feel! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! It looks awesome!!!

I thought that those with Canadian built cars were at an advantage because GM Canada has all the records on their cars - you just have to call & ask & they send you everything.

That is a great find!

Now I want to find mine, does anyone know if they put build sheets in cars made in Canada, and if so where would it be? I've checked the back seat, and looked under the front seats with a light, but best I can tell it's not there? Maybee under gas tank?

Chad

I found this in our tech archive section:

Quote:
Contact GM Canada with your VIN toll-free (in Canada) 1-888-467-6853, between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. EASTERN time.

If you have a "Canadian" built car, they can tell you everything about your car that the build sheet would have provided on your specific car.

I don't know about it being "free" for US cars but when I requested mine (Canadian built) they charged me $45.

OH...I read this whole thread - guess I misunderstood when he realized it was not a Canadian built car! OOPS!!

No, wait a minute - I know Jake's was Baltimore. I was responding to HEFF asking about Canada - I do not see where he found out his was built in Baltimore....

If you have a canadian built car, you can contact GM of Canada and they will send you all the info on the car... GM of Canada kept records of everthhing they built.. GM/usa didn't.

Great find Jake. FYI, my 70 SS has the 5000 rpm tach and that matches with the build sheet.

A Canadian built SS454 should have the Z20 stamped on the cowl tag.

maysville NC? That's where I'm at... Small little town.

The building is still there. It is a steel building on HWY 17.

A man named Pop Holden opened it, he is still alive, and it sold

to Bob Neamier, then to Forby Rhodes who moved the dealership to

Swansboro around 1990. It is now called Stevenson Chevrolet.

If you have a digital camera, would you mind snapping a couple of

pics of the building for me? smile

It is a steel building on the east side of 17 on the Jacksonville

side of town. There is a fence around the property possibly.

That is all I have been able to nail down so far.

The SS I have mentioned for sale in the SS forum is located in Jacksonville, NC so if anyone is in the area and call look at it for any interested member let us know.

Well, I just spoke to John "Pop" Holden, the man that opened

Community Chevrolet where my car was sold. Very nice guy.

I asked him if he might have any pictures of the dealership from

1970 and he says "I sure do". Not only that, they only sold a few

SS454's and they took pictures of them all. He might have a pic

of my car on the lot or with the original owner or both cool
