Rob Peters
Well, I just spoke to John "Pop" Holden, the man that opened Community Chevrolet where my car was sold. Very nice guy. I asked him if he might have any pictures of the dealership from 1970 and he says "I sure do". Not only that, they only sold a few SS454's and they took pictures of them all. He might have a pic of my car on the lot or with the original owner or both Hey Jake, If that is the case it could be something that nobody else in the club could lay claim to. What a great story and how excited are you about this possibility... I hope it comes true but I'm sure you won't let us know..... or will you. 7tonemonte
That would be awesome Jake, the only thing better would be if you were the original owner and in that picture!! Keep your fingers crossed, that would be a real nice thing to have
wallaby
That is just too cool. I can't seem to get my local machine shop to even reprint a work order so I can see what has been done to my engine. It's there on the computer, but it's just too much trouble to look up my name (starts with "A") and print. Grrr. Here you have a fellow who makes himself available, and it sounds as if he has a passion for what he did and the cars he sold...and he's willing to share pictures from his personal collection? If you watch "Antiques Roadshow" the word for this is PROVENANCE, and it can add significant value. Not to mention it's super-cool! Even if he doesn't have a photo with your actual car in it, old photos of the dealership with Monte Carlos out front would be a really cool place to start for some artwork projects.... I'm excited. Shadow Gray SS
Well I got a card from Pop Holden today with a pic of the dealership in Aug 1973. Here is a scan of the pic and card: Is this cool or what. Kinda choked me up a little. I am going to write him back and send him a few pics of the Monte Too cool, but what is that mustang doing in there

Capri's 71 SS
WOW, Jake that is truley way too cool!! Bet you are gonna frame that, huh? Ranks up there with me tracking down my original owner & getting a letter in the mail from him after we spoke on the phone. Saddly, original photos of my car from when it was new are long gone. Shadow Gray SS
Put it in the fire safe with the buildsheet. I will make a copy to frame and a copy to take to shows.
PapaCoop60
That is awesome Jake. I am trying to find out if the dealer my car was delivered to is still around. It was delivered to George Irvin Chevrolet on S. Colorado Blvd. in Denver Colorado. FInding stuff about your car is a difficult as studying your family's geneology. Cool stuff. Glad you got the note from him and I love seeing the 73 Monte in the garage. I also saw a 1971 Plymouth Fury III in the background. Canuck
Very cool Jake! I'd love to have something like that. I like cars with cool stories. The original dealership where mine was sold is long gone now. I did visit it once with the Monte before it was torn down but did not take any photos. What was I thinking? Shadow Gray SS
I haven't heard anything more from Pop Holden, I hope he is ok. Scared to call, no news is good news kind of thing...
allchevy
Sounds like an honest man. Something he didn't need to do but did. This post as well as Capri's should go down in some special place within this website.
MADMAC
Wow! I remember when you found the buildsheet but I guess I missed the update on when you got that picture and short letter. Definitely a cool memento for the car...
stevns71monte
did they put those in all monte's? if so where could i find mine? in the back seat?
montefrazer
"did they put those in all monte's?" No. This was excess paper after it was used to tell what parts the car got on the production line. Some cars got several, some got none, some got sheets for different cars. "where could i find mine? in the back seat?" Common places are in seats, under the carpet, and above the gas tank, but they have been found almost anywhere in the car.
