Wrecked 71 SS For Sale In Maine

Recommended Posts

A guy has contacted me to tell me about his 71 SS Monte.  Included in the attachments will be his email to me that includes his phone number and a copy of his buildsheet.  He is asking $10,000.  From what he says it has around 40,000 miles on it and had been restored before it ended up on the roof of the car.

Please keep in mind several of the pictures are prior to the accident

So would I Tom. I have been looking at that car for an hour and cannot for the life of me figure out HOW it happened. The damage to me (I am by no means a body guy) is just not adding up in my head. Unless it was on ice and downhill, then all bets are off.

It was a shame the car was beautiful!

was it in a 'TORNADER?"😛

That's a plausible reason for the damage. The owner lives in central Maine though, not exactly tornado alley, but not out of the question I suppose.

Good project for you. Fix and flip. Might keep you off dog food for a few more months. Lol.

Looks like it's already been flipped, lol. (yeah, I know....too easy).

Maybe if it was a lot less than $10K, even then, more work than I would care to do.

Subject: 71 monte ss for sale

My 71 was purchased from a friend. 1000 miles after a frame off it wound up on its roof. It's been stored inside. I have decided to sell it. It is repairable. If you know someone interested have them call me. 207 858 3091. I live in Central Maine.

There is another Monte site besides this one???

Yes but in reality this is the only Monte site. There are SS’s and then there are SS clones. We call them wannabe’s. Just like the sites. Lol. (You like the play on your screen name. Just joking around).

I'm just trying to be honest. I dont want anyone thinking I'm passing my Monte Carlo as an SS. Lol Tease away!!!!

No more teasing. I don’t care what people do to their own cars, it their car. I don’t like when people try to sell them as real though. Truth be told my 70 chevelle could very well be a fake and I don’t care. It’s fun as heck to drive.

Thats why I'm building my Monte Carlo the way I want. Nothing is original on it so I can do what ever I want. I know thats its not a SS, and I would never present it an a real SS. I would hate if someone down the road bought it from an sleezeball dealer thinking it was real. But there are enough red flags to prove its not a real SS

Would love to hear the story of that incident.

The more I look at it, particularly the driver side damage, something makes me think a jumbo forklift MAY have been responsible (dragged down from top to bottom).  The boo-boo on the fender is pretty squared off at the bottom of the defect and the direction of the damage flows from top down.  Look at how clean the crease in the roof is, also - pretty much 90°   If not a forklift, two very heavy items with right angles (steel beams, perhaps?) were dropped on this car. There is no other evidence to suggest it was rolled (There’d be more damage to every panel on the car if that was the case). And as to the damage to the passenger quarter?  Who knows. Either way, this sounds like a job for Dennis.
