I had over 100,000 miles and it needed much more work than yours. https://1971montecarlo.wordpress.com/1971-monte-carlo-no-a-c-heater-core-replacement-pics/ I’ve used those photos before. Great resource. This will be my 4th time swapping the heater core in a non-AC car.
Canuck
I’m working in pulling the heater core and see a pen sticking out from the bottom of the dash. I pull it out and felt another one up in there as well. I decided to feel around for other stuff and felt what I thought was a little flash light but once I felt the rubber part I knew what it was. The cigarette lighter!! I was pretty excited when I found it.
Canuck
Swapped the heater core today. I would normally be scraping off all the gunk from the firewall and heater box and painting the firewall but with this car I’m trying to preserve as much originality as I can.

Canuck
The air cleaner cleaned up nicely. The decal isn’t too bad for its age.

The bumpers have zero rust and chrome is shiny. The interior is in very nice condition but needs a good cleaning. The paint looks good from far. The doors close perfectly and it drives very nice. Beautiful car, Aaron! A nice grille and rear trim on a 72 is indeed rare. Be thankful because, as you probably know, it's ridiculously expensive to restore that grille; I was quoted $2500 to do the grille on my 72.

Been there.....💰💰 The back piece isn't cheap to re-do either.
Canuck
Today was a very nice day. I added almost 100 miles to the odometer. Here’s a video of it warming up in the morning. IMG_0031.MOV
Canuck
I still haven’t had a chance to wash it yet but it looks good from a distance.
Canuck
I spent today cleaning the engine bay. It isn’t perfect but I did get rid of most of the grime on the engine. I might hit it again another day to make it even better. I installed new hood insulation too after washing the underside of the hood.

Canuck
Worked on replacing the wheel cylinders today as they were leaking. I managed to get the brake line loose without twisting the line. The passenger side is complete so far and will complete the driver’s side tomorrow. Check out the big GC on the drum which is the suffix code for a 2.73 rear end without posi. I assume this marking was to help the assembly line worker choose the correct rear end as indicated on the build sheet. The GC marking is just on the one side.
Canuck
I finally broke down and decided to change the radiator hoses. I’ll keep the original hoses with the car though. I also replaced the heater hose that was a little short in my opinion. Looks better now.

Yes, I was able to confirm with the line sheet and GM Canada documents that it came factory all one colour with the trim. Paint code 6363 and has the D99 option code for the trim.

Canuck
I’m enjoying this car a little too much. I have put on 240 miles. The car passed its safety inspection yesterday and is now registered in my name. If a car is brought in from outside the province an inspection is required. Usually anything they find wrong during the inspection are things that should be fixed anyway.

From what I’ve read the single colour with the trim was only made in the Oshawa plant. I know of one 72 in Quebec and a 71 in Manitoba.
Canuck
Just because I ordered a 1972 FGMCC plate for it doesn’t mean I’m keeping it… 😁 2
