HELP ALSO THIS IS 1 OF 400 WITH THE M-20? WOW HOW MANY BENCH SEAT CARS? I THINK FROM WHAT I SEE ON THE COWL ITS CORTEX SILVER CORRECT? ALL HELP IS VERY APPRECIATTED REGARDS BOB
monte70car Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 the 3970014 checks out to be a 350 from 70-76 either 2 bolt main or 4 bolt main. check the # under the alt. to see if the last 6 #'s of the vin is stamped on it. 758 is blue cloth bench seat paint is cortez sliver.
Guest MusclecarBob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 robert yep cortez silver & blue bench seat m-20 is it the rapidfire 300 HP 350? how can i check the rear, you get anything from the #'s i provided? also its a non ac car, (if that helps on the rear)? 1 0f 400 WOW i'd like to have a BB, but this is Super Rare HUH? also is there a way to find out how many Bench seat M-20's were made of the 400? its also a 26K actual mile Monte Bob..
Guest MusclecarBob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 robert also how did you get a picture in the post? Bob..
Sam (Bones) Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Bob, all 4 spd montes had a M20 trans, it should also have the 350/300 engine, the rear axle is probably a 3.31 gear mine is the same, to top mine off, it has the roof painted white instead of a vinyl top (hand written in on the build sheet, cowl tag says spec two-tone), I wish we could figure out how many had benches vs. buckets you really need to get those numbers stamped by the cylinder head to know what you have
Guest MusclecarBob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 thanks bones what should the rear code be for 3:31? where is it located? wow a white painted top sweet do i have to pull the alt to check the last 6 to verify the engine is #'s? and also since its a stock 4bbl intake and carb, it is the 300HP/350 then? was yours built in baltimore? 1 more thing is your production #er close to mine, just wondering if these were all built at the same place and time? to bad they dont have records on these? why dont they? of 400 we have 2, there cant be many others left huh? sorry for the 50 questionxs regards bob
monte70car Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 bob where did you get RAPIDFIRE 350 from? with it having a 4bbl carb and intake it it will be the bigger 350 with 300hp. all of the small blocks where label as turbo-fire. the rear end code is on the front side of the tube on the passenger side. i also dont see where you are getting 1 of 400 from? here is the codes for the rear end http://www.firstgenmc.com/tech/rearaxledecoding.shtml. you say the m-20 matches the vin and cowl tag? what #'s did it match with? also your build date on the cowl tag does not look right to me. your monte is a early build, looks like your monte was built 13,371 units behind my. try and find the build sheet as it will have all the information you need on it.
Sam (Bones) Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 there were more than 400, I don't know where you got that number??? mine was built in Van Nuys, California my body number is 00059, don't remember my VIN, it was built on 1/5/1970 have you looked for a build sheet??? I found a near perfect one rolled up nice and pretty in the lower half of the front seat, and another above the gas tank
Guest MusclecarBob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 sam, sorry turbo-fire i seen here, maybe somwhere else, that there were only 839 4speeds built and 400 with the hi-perf 350 i guess the turbo-fire so the code is on the inboard side of the tube, (looking from the rear)? ,in other words the inner tube? the vin, cowl and tranny all have 13857, thats correct right? what dont look right on the cowl? i'll look for the build sheet under the rear seat? ft bench? gas tank? or? thanks in advance
Guest MusclecarBob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 sorry sam and robert on that last message again i thought i sen on this site, it may have been another, i'll recheck, that there were only 839 70 monte carlo 4-speeds built period? and of them only 400 had the 300 hp 350?
monte70car Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 the 13857 is the style #, the # you are trying to make is the last 6 #'s of your vin in this case you are looking for 171123. you are correct on where to look for the rear end code. the build date which is the first part of line three you posted 244. the build date should look like 02 with a letter from a to d.
Guest MusclecarBob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 i see, duh, i need to recheck the numbers lol but there were only 839 4-speeds built with the 350 or 400 engine and then i wonder how many with the 350? and then i wonder how many of them with the bench seat and how many left not many i bet i'll recheck all the numbers co i have to take the alt off on the engine?

Paul Bell Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Sorry Bob, I see Monte70car has already addressed the rapid fire thing. Try to keep your postings and questions in one thread and also try not to repeat the same info. I don't think this car may be all that rare, if you look at all the options available, there really weren't any two cars exactly alike. This makes all of them "one of one just like this one" Here's where to find a listing of what the engine codes mean: http://www.chevelles.com/years/70/70codes.html Here's where to find the code on the engine:
Guest MusclecarBob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 hi paul thanks for the info, looks like i'll have to pull the alt i think 1 of 839 is fairly rare , of the 145 thousand made? dont you think, i realize each is rare to each owner but from a production standpoint?
