Just curious if anyone would know how many 70 SS were ordered as field demo cars for Chevrolet Motors field employees?  The build sheet I have seems to indicate it was special ordered for a field manager.

That is really cool! I’m guessing he was an Assistant Parts and Accessories Manager? Well optioned car too.

This "field demo" is highly optioned, but it seems odd that it did not include Positraction.

Many of the 70-71 SS Monte's were Gm executive cars. It was a new model and they could get whatever they wanted, So why not get a loaded up SS Monte Carlo.

I agree about the lack of POSI.

Yeah the lack of Posi is a head scratcher considering a lot of other options were checked. Would be interesting to know how many 2:56 SS were ordered with posi. Does anyone have a 2:56 posi SS?

Mine is. But unfortunately it’s a Flint built car. The rear numbers all checked out.

My 70 SS is a numbers matching 2.56 posi. If you research all of the SS build sheets published on this site, you will find that most 70 SS cars are 2.56 and many are posi.

2.56 was standard in 1970 on  the SS 454. 3.31 was standard in 1971 on the SS 454.

Double correct. 70 posi, 71 not so much but is now.

intersting ,my 72 454 custom has a 3.31 posi wondering if it was standard also ?

In 1972 a 454 came with a 3.31 rear axle as standard equipment. The 3.31 Posi was an option.

My '70 SS was ordered by someone at the Kansas City plant from the Van Nuys plant and it was used as an executive pool car for 5 months. It has a lot of options and one is the posi-trac rear. It was a 2.56 ratio until I changed it to a 3.55.
