Auburn852 Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 I read a number of entries on front MC speakers. I just fabricated my own and thought I would share. I used 22 gauge steel. I think if I had to do this again I might opt for 18 gauge. However with the bends and speakers mounted the 22 seems fine. Here are some photos. Used a twinkle box to make a template. Speakers are 3.5 inch Infinity frome Crutchfield. Don't judge my welding it's not pretty but it works to hold the nuts in place. 15 Quote
willie Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 Hey Mike, I would never make fun of your welding skills, as i cant weld either. But i did chuckle alittle when i seen the twinkie box!!! But whatever works is what i say!! Nice job!! 2 1 Quote

I kept them horizontally flush and the pad kinda curves up underneath. You do need to watch how you do the brackets to allow the dash clips inner the windshield not to interfere during install and removal of the pad 2 Quote
420ponies Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 Man, that's going to sound pretty sweet !! JoeT used something different on his, I followed up with his set-up. That looks great. Anything to upgrade the sound system on these will help going down road🙂🙂 2 1 Quote

420ponies Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 No, but I have been stopped in it before !! On the way to Carlisle no doubt ! I did see something at the Syracuse Natl's though I liked, on the side glass of a Nova etched in the glass read "yeah I know, license and registration" 😆😆 With my new motor/trans/rear axle combo, I'm setting up a throttle stop for a while though ! 1 3 Quote

Scott S. Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 Somehow I can see you roaming an apocolyptic wasteland searching for a twinkie..... Does your Monte have the #3 painted on the door ? 3 Quote

Scott S. Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 I'm guessing that a Bran Flakes box wasn't an option ?? 3 Quote

Better than stock but nothing like today's car audio. To make it great would need to do an amp with proper frequency cut offs. What I have works for playing some Boston, journey and damn Yankee tunes 4 Quote
1Bad454 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Thanks again for the inspiration. I just made these out of 16 gauge steel. I'll be installing 3.5" speakers as well. 8 Quote
JSenseney Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Bought my 72 from a reseller who obtained it from an estate. I removed dash to start process of repairing radio towers… to discover only the right speaker was there on a chop job of original bracket with an Alpine 4”. No speaker on left, well… the “chop job” installer found out the 4” would not fit at dash.. so he just dropped it loose into the dash. Starting with this inspiration and that I still had Concord tweeters on the pillars, I ordered 3.5” pair (whizzer cone, but use an electronic crossover to amp) from custom auto sound. I didn’t use a Twinkie box opting for a Rice Chex box. I printed your photos, upped the size to create my version of a template. Then 22 gauge 12”x18” sheet from Home Depot, a sabre saw, drill… and a lot of patience to recreate as close as possible. Thank you again for the inspiration on how to do it right also. Attached are my pictures. 9 Quote
SPLATT71MC Posted June 7 Posted June 7 You guys might want to look into rivnuts for future projects. They work really well for adding threads into sheet metal parts. 2 1 Quote
1Bad454 Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Unfortunately I had to abandon the plate that I made for the drivers side due to my speaker magnet being too big and was hitting the wire harness on the back of my Dakota Digital gauges.. I came up with a different idea that ended up working. The dash now rests fine on both sides. 4 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Looks great! I'll have to make something for mine like the driver's side bracket that you made. The Rockford Fosgate speakers I'm using have a deeper magnet on them, and it wants to hit the cluster ribbon cable. 1 Quote
