On my 1971 Monte I just have a non-posi 10 bolt differential

Thinking about putting an cast aluminum with fins cover to dissipate heat and have more oil capacity. I found some on Ebay that say they will fit 8.5 and 8.6  ring gears. does anyone know if they would bolt right up to what I have? Thanks Wayne

I believe we use a 8.2"  10 bolt rear axle. Mine was a 2:73 posi-traction unit.

Most '70's have the 8.2".... In '71 G.M. started to transition to the 8.5"/8.6", depending on engine and gear options. 

8.2" are hard to find parts for, not sure about 8.5/8.6". 

Here's a picture of an 8.2.... 8. 5"/8.6" have tabs on the bottom corners of the housing. It's one way to tell the diffrence.
