Traveler
Anyone have a recommendation for hydraulic (? easier to open) hood hinges?
monte70car
My old 72 had these https://mcbparts.com/ems-billet-aluminum-hood-hinges-pair-70-72-monte-carlo-machined-ms149-47m it looked good can’t really say it made opening the easier. You still have to adjust the hood correctly.
cny first gen 71
Yea the billet ones are nice but expensive and not sure how much easier they make it. I had my factory hinges rebuilt I'm very happy with them.
S.Maug
bloos hinges were a bit stiff, one drop of wd 40, now can't keep hood up 😆
Marks71
When I first got my Monte the hood hinges were so stiff I’m surprised the hood didn’t have a kink in it from pulling it down or even raising it. As Steve said, a little WD40 in all the pivot points then working the hood, and now I can just grab the latch with one hand and pull it down with ease. Raises just as easily and stays up. I regularly lubricate the door hinges also.

It can make a difference, even on a new hinge.
420ponies
Billet hinges do not make our "dinner table" hood go up any easier. They just look nice!. The gas struts do make it stay up though. Steve, I need the name and address of that place you sent yours to get rebuilt. Dennis I need the part number for those new springs. You can both PM me please and Thank you! Dtret
I have 4 sets of springs, 50 per set. If you run into bad hinges I have a bunch we will make a deal. This goes for anyone by the way. ( shoe shot for authenticity)

I used white lithium and it helped, and they are getting better, my issue is the first 2” after the hood release, the hood doesn’t open far enough get my fingers inside. Marks71
There is a post in the forums that addresses that. There was s another spring you can add that fits inside the existing latch spring to give that extra push to pop the hood up from behind the grill. I’ll look and try to find it. Otherwise someone will chime in with that info.
Marks71
Go to the technical category and then to General Tech. Page 3, Hood Latch Helper spring. There are part numbers. Sorry for the round about way, but I don’t know how to post links.
cny first gen 71
I had an extra one but I guess I used it or gave it away but I got it at Ace hardware was #54 it's the one in th picture that's missing I bought last one but they got more in. It goes inside the spring that's there, works well.
