Jeff Dodson Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I saw where there was a conversation about a plug with a BLACK and BROWN wire near the distributor. What is this plug for. Quote
Scott S. Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Hey Jeff, is it connected to the distributor ? Quote
stangeba Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Picture of my stock 1971 350 4BBL Monte Carlo. I think this connector has one black and one brown wire. I believe it attaches to the relay looking small box just above it. I think it is part of the TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) system, that I unhooked years ago. I think the Green wire also attaches to that relay box that doesn't have any wires attached to it. 1 Quote

Dtret Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 I looked on my 72. I seen black and brown but with other colors too. Post a picture of the plug. 3 Quote
Canuck Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 What year is the car. A photo would help also. Then I could look it up in the wiring diagram. 2 Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 Wow, I'm sorry, I didn't realize I let this post go. I'll have to look back. I'm actually in the middle of Body mounts, inner fenders and AC delete. I don't remember the wires. I'm also trying to figure out what AC wires to delete. I will be doing a Vintage Air, much later. But I want to get rid of those wires in that firewall pass through. Can I just remove them. I don't just cut wires Quote
Scott S. Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Hey Jeff, when you get a chance, post a couple pics and the year of your Monte, please. Quote

Scott S. Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Hey Jeff, Got to thinking about the harness you're looking at and I'm wondering if it's not the windshield wiper pump wire..... I've added a pic of harness, colours are different as it's a Chevelle one, but the ends will be the same. Any of the ends look like what you're talking about ?? Scott. 1 Quote
jft69z Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 That's a pic of a 1965 Chevelle harness though, if the Google image search is correct. 1 Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Mine is a flat plug just like the flat ones in the Pic but the wire colors are Black wire and brown wire. And it's on the other side of the carborator from windshield wiper pump. I was actually wondering if it were possibly original choke wire plug ?, it's on the side... Quote

Jeff Dodson Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Ok, back to the drawing board Quote
420ponies Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 (edited) I have a'72 with air. I'm going to see what my assembly manual shows. Is it a 2 wire with a slide on connector? What I mean is you can see the terminals on 1 side of the connector. Very nice looking'72 you have, is that a factory color? Looks like it could be the C.E.C.valve . this was a 2 bbl set-up. Hope this helps.🙂 Edited December 9, 2024 by 420ponies Added content 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Like I was sayin' Jeff, the colours are different because it's from a Chevelle...... '65-'67 if I remember right. (Thanks Joe.) But the ends are the same. Montelishi's wires are black and brown..... And she's a '70. I have her wrapped up for the winter, or else I'd send you a pic. Scott. Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 This is the plug I was referring to. Sorry, I finally remember to take the picture 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Considering it's location, I'm thinking that it's for the TCS relay. Transmission Controlled Spark relay. Seeing as you've gone to an HEI distributor, these don't do anything anymore. Quote

Scott S. Posted January 12 Posted January 12 The black wire runs to a ground point, and the brown runs back to the relay mounted on the firewall on the passenger's side of the distributor. 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Mine was rewired for the HEI when I got it, but there are lots of Youtube videos on how and what to do with the wiring. 2 Quote

That's exactly what it us, thank you, I also found the black plug that went to the transmission. I found a couple other wires I'm trying to figure out. The double green ( solid green and green w/ white stripes ) then I found a cut Orange wire when I pulled the wrapping off the wires Quote
Scott S. Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I think the green ones run to the temp sender.... If they're running in the same spot. And the only orange wire I can think of around there should be power to the heater fan. I'd have to take another look. Quote
