Scott S. Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Hi Ray, Is the noise coming from the transmission ? Kind of sounds like the reverse band is slipping... Does it make the same sound in the forward gears too ? Scott. Quote
RayRay72 Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 It does it in forward but louder in reverse Quote
Scott S. Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 When was the last time the fluid was replaced ? Does it slip when driving ? Or have you not chanced that ? Quote
Scott S. Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Just a thought, but if the filter is plugged and the fluid is old, it might be what's making the noise. I'm assuming it's a TH350. Quote
420ponies Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 When was the last time you checked hour torque converter bolts? Quote

Scott S. Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 👍 Years ago I worked with a guy who owned a '74 Monte. One night he got home and parked his Monte in the driveway. The next morning he couldn't get it to back out of the driveway..... And not being mechanically inclined, he sold the car. CHEAP !!! A few days later, the guy who bought it had changed the fluid and filter, and drove it over to thank him for the fantastic deal he got. Told me the noise it was making made him think the transmission was shot.... 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Ray, When you change the filter, check the pan for metal filings, and if the fluid smells burnt or discoloured. That'll give you a better idea if there's something bigger wrong. 1 Quote

Scott S. Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 A couple hundred Monte Carlo owners have to be able to come up with something..... 2 Quote
420ponies Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Well ? What is the squeak sound. I'm really curious as to what it is. Please, let us know.😊 Quote
alain boileau Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 🙂It squeaks going in and out of gear. Try flushing and changing filter on transmission. Also lube column shifter and see how it goes Alain🙂 Quote
alain boileau Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 🙂Yes I agree forgot about the u joints Alain🙂 Quote
Scott S. Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 If it's squeaking while out of gear..... Assuming it's not moving..... I don't think the U-joints are the issue. Just my $0.03...... (Canadian) lol 3 Quote
stangeba Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 I was going to suggest you remove all the belts (2 or 3) on the ft of the engine and restart it. I'm probably way off but it's free to try it. 2 Quote
420ponies Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 So, I PM'd Ray Ray 72 and quote " that must have been it, Tightened the up and hasn't made the noise since" . Glad that is settled! Quote
Glen Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Flux capacitor. Definitely the flux capacitor. 2 Quote
