I need to realign my hood. I think the cause is from opening it up so many times during shows. should I adjust the rear bolts only or all four. I just don't want to make it worse than it it is already.

Start by dropping the hinge at the rear bolts a little.

Or raising the front. This is the easiest as on bolt versus two for the back and the one to the firewall

I'd still start with the back, that hood is really high. Loosen the back bolts a little, have someone push up on the front of the hood, then tighten them back up. At any rate, a little bit at a time....

You don't want to 'bow' the hood in the middle though. It's all about geometry, Larry is right though, to lower the back of a hood, you either lower the back two bolts, or raise the front two. Sort of opposite what you would normally think possible...At any rate, make sure when you're latching it at the front, the hood isn't bending in the middle, if that's the case, readjust to get it level.

Realistically, the hinges may be worn out, and you may not get it adjusted properly if that's the case.

Believe it or not, the factory assembly manual has a little diagram that helps as a starting place, using a couple gage holes in the hinge. Still, if the hinge is shot, it won't help. Fine tuning will be necessary, but it's a start if you were putting the car completely back together from scratch.

Oh, This guy( Joe T), has alot of stuff we don't see. He is like "The Dude" on this stuff. A lot of the guys that work on this stuff know it, just don't show it, but if you ask them they are more willing to show you. I had another issue with my Monte( really?)  and Joe T was the first one I contacted about it. This, and many other things on this site, are why I stay tuned. That' s why its the FGMCC!!😊

Hope the surgery went well Joe, get well as soon as you can but don't push it. I know telling Joe not to push it is like telling a bear not to crap in the woods 🤣

So far it's good, but anesthesia is still working. There's a boot on each foot, sort of look like Herman Munster now 😄

Kevin,

Haven't you ever heard the saying "Don't open your hood to strangers" ?

I found with mine that I had to remove shims (on top of the cowl/firewall) to bring Montelishi's hood down

But there wasn't enough play to get it all the way down so I wound up shimming the quarter panels as well.

Scott.

My hood needs fine tuned. But evidently this isn’t a one man operation.. when I lower the rear, the hood goes forward too much. No way I’m trusting my wife to hold the hood while my head is underneath!! No way! Hahaha!… 😂

Yes definitely a 2 man job for sure and sometimes a real pain but with persistence and a little time it can be done. I did it 3 times on mine when I was messing with the hood.

Have the hood lowered as far as possible to where you can barely get your arms in to loosen the hood to hinge bolts. The hood will only move when you push it when it's that low, and you can check your progress a lot easier.

I adjusted mine by loosening the hinge bolts to the fender just enough to hold. Closed the hood, pushed the rear down, and slowly lifted the hood just enough to tighten the bolts. Way easier than moving the hinge and checking each time. I also removed the grill so I could lift it easier without pinching my fingers in the grill/hood meeting area. It also helped by being able to see the hood bumpers in front and seeing if they needed adjusted.

Good! Glad it worked out. As you said, little steps, and close the hood (any adjusted panel actually) carefully between adjustments.
