420ponies Posted November 5 Posted November 5 (edited) Hey Everyone, I just wanted to send a shout out to Dan Janes for the shifter plates he makes for our console shift Monte Carlo's. For little time I had gotten to shift my new transmission thru the gears, I know I'm going to love it!! Feels like I did at the drag strip years ago. To Dan, Thank you Sir !!😊😊 Edited November 5 by 420ponies Spellcheck 10 Quote
Michael Boyte Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Jim, I can guarantee you are going to love it. We bought his first design and was quite well satisfied with it, then he updated it and we bought that one also. A fantastic upgrade to any shifter such as ours. In fact , I would have to say, that's one of the best upgrades for the first Gen Monte and the Chevelle's that one can make and it's very affordable ! In my book, Dan Janes is always deserving of a shout out !!!! Thank you for doing so Jim !! 3 Quote
Chevy Dave Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Dan has done excellent work for me in the past. What will his shifter plate do differently than my stock one? How much does it cost? 1 Quote
Michael Boyte Posted November 6 Posted November 6 His shifter plate will convert the shifter to a True slap shifter. Look up DPJ Fabrications I believe we paid around $100 for it 2 Quote
420ponies Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 Hi David, It works like the old B&M Quickstar shifter I had in my '68 Firebird Drag car. Never missed a shift on that automatic. That car could pull some G's!! 2 Quote
Whons Posted November 13 Posted November 13 How does this work. Is there much modifications to the factory console shifter? 1 Quote

overdrive Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Thanks to all for the great comments and compliments, and for this thread. I'll answer a few questions here and I'll try to keep it fairly short, but that part isn't easy. I didn't like the product that Shiftworks and Thomson Performance have and I had an idea in 2019 for how to make the shifter in my '70 SS with the TH400 work better than their detent plate could. The goal was to be able to simply slap my shifter forward for the 1-2 shift, and then do the same again for the 2-3 shift, without having to squeeze the handle, and for it to be impossible to accidentally go to Neutral. My design worked so well that others wanted to try them. I had been occasionally making and selling some of the parts for our Montes for 15 or 20 years, but making my True Slap detent plates quickly and officially turned one corner of my garage into a small business. I have over 30 different plates now for different factory GM shifters and transmission combinations. The True Slap TS3a for a '68-'72 Chevrolet shifter and a normal pattern TH350 or TH400 is by far my best seller, with the overdrive version coming in second. I have a lot of demonstration videos on YouTube and with over 900 sales, I've shipped all over the world. I have 10 customers in Australia! I make myself available 7 days a week for customer support and it's been a fun adventure helping others make their car more fun to drive while making slap shifting much safer. Anything that makes our cars this much fun is a plus. I have a good number of repeat customers like Michael that have bought another for a second car and some that just wanted to give them to friends. Drag racers and street car owners love these detent plates because they can trust them to not miss a shift and they can use their original shifter with no console modifications. The cost is much lower than changing shifters, the installation is very easy, and you can keep the great factory look. Please call, text, email, or send a PM for orders to keep this thread from being more of an ad than I've already made it, but I'll be glad to answer questions here for all to see. Contact info is in the videos. Dan 7 1 Quote
420ponies Posted November 15 Author Posted November 15 (edited) It's a very simple install/upgrade for what you get. He makes these plates for a variety of cars . I would had gotten one for my 2004r that I had before in my Monte had I known about Dan. That one was from Shift Works. Again, Thank you Dan for the shift plate. 72 Monte Carlo Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I ordered one of Dan's shifter plates, but I haven't installed it yet. I still need to finish mounting my center console, shifter, cable, and console wiring harness. I've been too busy working on other people's rigs instead of my Monte. 3 Quote
