jft69z Posted January 1 Posted January 1 So, after getting a new job where I have to do a lot of work on the computer, I decided to add another computer screen. There were always two - 32" screens, plus an additional one for the security cameras. Because of the multiple spreadsheets that are involved with the Club (5 at a time, quite often), I added another Samsung 32" the other day. Also put the camera screen on a swing-out stand to move it out of the way when not needed. I've used multiple screens for years in the house, shop, and even had my mother hooked on it (despite her initial reluctance). So far, I like it! 8 Quote
Scott S. Posted January 1 Posted January 1 I'm thinking you should get a pair of those glasses that display on the lenses......... Or one of those "holographic projecting" wrist watches. Then you'll be in touch 24/7. 2 Quote
Robnhood Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Nothing better than multiple monitors. I have 2 32 viewsonic monitors with a very thin bezel. They work really nice. At work I have a wide screen monitor. I think I prefer 2 over the one wide screen. Is that an old Microsoft intellimouse that I see? 3 Quote

I sort of miss the old 4:3 screens, because they were taller, in the vertical plane. To get the same size height on a 16:9, I had to go with the 32", when replacing the old 22's I used to have (those ended up in the shop). Yes! I love those mice, I have a few of them around here in use, plus a spare or two in stock. I like the button arrangements, and also created a macro for a 'TAB' function, to step thru stuff quicker. 2 Quote

Having had that job I can understand how extra monitors would make things easy. I never had that much space at our house to dedicate an area that large. I did it all on my 17" laptop. Just a note Joe, that desk is way too tidy. rob 1 2 Quote

J/K Joe, you keep your inner geek bottled up for the most part. 😎 5 1 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I have (2) Dell S3422DWG 34" wide monitors for my custom built hi-performance desktop computer at home. I just installed a Corsair RM1000i power supply unit and a EVGA Geforce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra video card, just to upgrade the graphics card from the MSI GTX 1060 6GB video card that was in it. 2 Quote

cny first gen 71 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I'm with Dennis, I have a phone and a chrome book, half the time I have a hard time figuring them out. But I'm pretty good at making a phone call and texting 😁. That does look great Joe, and thank you for all the help you're always willing to give anyone. 4 1 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I'm a network administrator for my regular job and I have 110 network switches on my network, along with 40 wireless access points, and 65 APC UPS battery backup units to keep the switches up and running during power outages. That said, I'm still a computer geek when it comes to computers, as I have built several laptops and desktop computers for myself, family, and friends. 2 Quote

I think Windows 7 (But it might have been Windows 2000 prof) may have been the last Windows operating system that I ran on my primary personal machine. 1 1 Quote
Dtret Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I have windows in my house. 32 of them. Does that count? lol. O and I have a laptop. Brand new actually. It’s probably out of date though. Karen and Joe just loaded some program on it that does something I need. I turn it on every once in a while to look important. 😝 6 Quote

Wait till you find the solitaire games, you will be able to fill all of that spare time you have playing the different solitaire games. rob 2 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Here are examples of network switches. Most big enterprise networks will have 48 ports per switch blade as seen in this photo. You can connect 48 computers, printers, IP phones, wireless access points, or a combination of all of them to those 48 switch ports, to give all the user end devices a network connection and Internet if needed. The switches connect to the backbone of the network from the MDF (main data facility) aka a main network closet, to the IDF (independent data facility) which are located in each separate wing in a building, via SFP (small fiber platform) fiber modules and cables, which will provide anywhere from 1Gb to 25Gb network speeds for 1 - 4 fiber connection ports. The main network closet can be connected to the independent data closets via copper Ethernet Cat5e or Cat6 cables, but if you need more than 1Gb network speeds, then fiber is your best option to accomplish that goal. 1 Quote
