Rob Peters Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Does anyone have any wiring diagrams for the radio's. I just looked through the 1970 wiring diagrams and could not find anything on the wiring for the radio and speakers. I am installing new speakers in prep for a new radio so I would like to see diagrams for the radio and speakers. I had my dash pad off today to look into installing the new speakers. The radio I will be installing is going to have stereo capabilities and in looking at the way the front speakers are currently wired, it looks like they are wired in parallel which would mean I would not have balance/fade ability which I would need for the full stereo effect. rob Quote
Rob Peters Posted February 21 Author Posted February 21 Paul, Thanks but that is not really what I need. One of the things my new speakers specify is insuring I hook up the positive lead to one of the connections and the negative wire gets hooked up to the proper lead. So I need the actual wire diagram so I can see the pin-out for the harness plug. rob 1 Quote

willie Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Rob if i look in my 72 manual, would that help, or will it be the same schematic as the one you have? Quote
Scott S. Posted February 21 Posted February 21 To be completely honest Rob, it's easier to run a complete new set of wires for the speakers. Not only do you get fresh conduction, but you can upsize the wire. (If there's any type of amp in the unit, this is a good thing) Most newer stereos run a lot more power through the wire. Plus you're not damaging the "factory" wiring if you're trying to preserve the car. And it eliminates any guess work as well. Just my humble opinion..... But it's worked for me. 3 Quote

The wire gauge recommendations for my new speakers is the same as the old. The copper doesn’t really degrade and and I plan to clean all connectors. I am running fresh wiring to the rear speakers because currently there is only 1 speaker in the package tray. rob Quote
Jim Boczar Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Hi Rob, I can offer info on a factory AM/FM 8 track stereo radio 4 speaker setup which I have. I attached a schematic for a factory radio which shows the speaker outputs were crisscrossed for superior stereo effect from front to rear. You will need to determine if you want to follow this setup or split your stereo to just front and rear. The factory rear speakers used a bonded three wire, one black wire for shared ground and then blue wire for right and dark grey wire for left. This wire was run under the carpet on the passenger side and I attached a link below to one for sale on ebay for your review. If your after market front speakers are not marked for ground or signal then as long as you wire them the same you should be ok. https://www.ebay.com/itm/253358189128?_skw=1970+chevelle+rear+speaker+wires&itmmeta=01JMNQZ18JQA3EGNJMG5MWC044&hash=item3afd532a48:g:dXIAAOSwYGNZlNA0&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dw3%2FWzsVDIoevwZBipDkOR8CHjd7p268NZUI4zcAN3HfEcfTm%2FEi%2BlZIpbNeQZ1rkBw8OKP8Wq0dl5TCZqYfP4225CjaIvKw%2BT%2FSLpnzMRjy1JIohS6G1bhp%2FqVDrRrVbzTQQxnkugen7stDvtHZ3jR06PbwEN1OF2T5%2FaJVt7cX4krGYF6TmaoClzTf0NMRWyardYWw8KNMn%2BXH6hYnSilaFunYKnAiMFBFYQlo9ieer2caZM73pU5ndB4Fd%2FVZF7QU0XPFaEP5fLbnzli0fC|tkp%3ABk9SR7yU_LelZQ 2 Quote
