Hey everybody,

I've got a few questions regarding the felt mouldings. Just so everybody knows my car was missing a lot of things when I bought it. So while putting it back together I'm having to figure several things out such as the weather strip and the felt window mouldings. I bought this kit and and am trying to figure out what goes where (please reference the pictures). I am assuming that the felts with chrome go on the door panels? Right? Also for 1971 was there a piece of chrome (polished) trim that runs along the top of the door next to the moulding? Or is it just a rubber lip from the felt. Any comments and or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ronald,

I've included a pic of my '70 that might be of some use, (you may have to zoom in.)

I'm not sure if the '71-'72 had a broader chrome strip as an option, I'm sure someone might have an example here somewhere.  :)

Chrome strip goes to exterior painted surface, screw to door, before glass is installed. The other staples to door panel. Same process for the rear.

Staples to the door or the door panel ? ;)

It says “ screw to door “. “ staple to panel”.  I thought it was pretty clear. But maybe not. I’m easily confused.

@1Bad454, what kit is that? Can you post a link to the vendor and kit offering?

It looks like you're missing the exterior chrome trim that the felt / weather stripping piece would attach to. On my 72 exterior assembly there are some small, bent metal tangs on the felt / weather strip piece that hook into slots on the chrome trim. Maybe 5 or 6 of them along the length as I recall. Then 3 very small screws go through that assembly and into the metal of the door.

You do not have to remove the glass or put these in before you install the glass. There are some 9/16 (?) bolts on the lower inside of your door that you can loosen and slide the window stops down temporarily. This allows you to get at the screws more easily with the window installed

I have a thread that might be useful having just gone through this when doing a custom return on my door panels (just finished it!!)

LOL !!!

As long as you're not using duct tape, it's pretty clear.

I probably would but you’re not wouldn’t see it. lol. 😝

Did you have the wide belt molding?

The wide belt molding was available as an option on all three years but was standard on the 72 Custom.

@Dtret, I did / do have the "wide molding" as it turns out. Does that make a difference to my answer above? Let us know.

Yes, the wide molding uses different outer felts. Ronnie has the standard felts that that are not for the wide belt molding.

Just make sure you're using the correct colour tape.  ;)

Update for those interested. I called the manufacture today and they told me that my felt kit is for a MC with the "reveal" molding.

The one that you need or the one you got?

The set that I got. I'm just going to order the correct outers.. They gave me the part number for the outers only. Since I bought these back in November I can't return. The eBay seller isn't responding today and so I'll just eat the difference and order the outers from SS396.com

I had ordered the MT103R for my 72 with 'wide molding' and ended up returning them. The outer weather stripping portion didn't match up and would have taken some hackery to install
