Jeff Dodson Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Well, I finally had to bite the bullet AGAIN. Tired of the tranny leaking all over my driveway. Also having the Flex Plate replaced. The starter makes a horrible screeching sound. Replaced it with a new starter from an 87 model so it's a smaller ( magnetic ?) Having a shift kit put in as well. I want it to break tires when switch gears 3 Quote
502ci Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Nothing wrong with wanting to hear a tire chirp or spin when it shifts gears but wouldn't that mean under normal driving conditions every time it shifts you will feel a jerk? 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Yes, the heavier springs can make the shifts a little more "pronounced"..... I've even noticed the occasional downshift hesitation when braking. Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted April 29 Author Posted April 29 I'll see, I do like the the positive shifts, that won't bother me. The lazy downshift will be a bit annoying 2 Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted June 17 Author Posted June 17 Well got the car back. Had a few leaks i had to address. The builder does a god job at building, but the installer is questionable. The clutches and plates were completely destroyed. I have no idea how it even moved. The TQ Converter, as he stated was a 3600 stall.... ON A STOCK MOTOR, hmmm I don't know who the original builder was. This thing shifts quick unless I get on it, then it will break the tires loose... im happy with it.... 6 Quote
420ponies Posted June 18 Posted June 18 My new set-up. BBC 427, Turbo 400, 12 bolt posi with 3:73 gear ratio,28.5" rear tires. Had a 2400 rpm stall converter, and a lower 1st gear installed. Took it on a shake down run and man, is 1st gear quick ! Yes, a 3,600 stall, not good on a stock motor for sure! I'm easing in on the new rear gears, break-in procedure on the new posi unit also. 1st 100 miles , no stressing of the gears or posi-unit . at 500 miles, change gear oil and should be set ! 3 Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted June 18 Author Posted June 18 I have the 12 bolt. I have no idea what's in it, havnt gotten that far. I sure do want 3.73 gears. Im more if a GRUNT kind of guy... Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted June 18 Posted June 18 My 72 Monte has the most common 2.73 gears in the 12 bolt, but I have a actual GM made gear 3.31 gear set, new bearings, shims, seals, and a brand-new Yukon posi to install it once it's finally painted. I have a brand-new set of Cooper Cobra radial tires with the rear tires being 275/60R15 at 28" tall, and the front tires being 255/60R15 at 27" tall. 5 Quote
