Rob Peters Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Our neighborhood got hit hard by yesterdays big storm. It was a very fast moving storm. Our power went off just before 5:00PM when the storm ROARED through. In the Pittsburgh 300,000 homes were without power and ours was one of them. Here are some of my photo's. Numerous trees down and property damages. We just got our power back on around 8:00 this evening. A tree in one neighbor's back yard left a 4 foot deep hole in the ground and you will see the root ball sticking up in the air 15 feet. Here are some of my photo's: rob 9 Quote
420ponies Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I had heard this on the news, late last night. I didn't know which part of the city got hit hard. Man ,some storm. That's a good size tree uprooted for sure! Lots of damage in your area? Our area drive-in (only one around anymore, Elmira Drive-in ), got torn down by that same storm. We had 50 mph winds, and only lasted 25 minutes. Glad your ok! 3 Quote

Montemedic Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Sounds like it didn’t cause any damage to your property. Glad you and your family are OK. Mother Nature has not been playing nice with others lately. 5 Quote

Leghome Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Had a good friend tell me today that his daughter’s house was totally destroyed in those last bad storms along with her husband’s automobile business and some customers vehicles. He showed me some pix and the business building is almost leveled along with the detached garage near the house. My buddy spent several years remodeling different arts of the but he also had about $20,000 damage to his house 25 miles from his daughter’s place. Luckily nobody was injured as all were home when the storm struck 1 Quote
Rob Peters Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 We are one of the lucky ones, we got our power back on but many people will be without power for another week, Thanks for power companies in Philadelphia and Indiana, who have sent 40 crews and equipment to help our local power companies. rob Quote

I was talking to a Pittsburgh Police LT who I know and he was telling me about a man who was killed a couple miles from us. This guy started walking towards his car that was parked and the guys car had an electrical wire laying across. One of the policemen hollered at him to tell him to stay away from the car. The guy said "I want to move my car" the policeman told him it was a live wire and not to go near his car. The cop turned to talk to another resident and as soon as he turned his back on the guy the idiot touched the car. A second later he was dead. rob 2 Quote
Blake350 Posted May 4 Posted May 4 that looks like it might have been some kind of pine they are large above ground but as the pic shows not much of a root system/they like to fall over Quote
