I’m installing new front rotors and bearings on my 70. I cleaned up the spindle before putting the new rotor on and noticed these little “nicks” on the spindle. If I put the old bearing on it seems to fit in place like it should on the spindle without rocking or anything. I really don’t want to change spindles unless absolutely necessary but may have it in my long term plans to do so. Thoughts?

I would think that's alright,  the bearings ride in the cones not really on the spindle maybe file off any sharp edges.

I have seen that before and not affect the operation.  Like Steve said the actual bearing rides in its own race.  As long as the nicks don't cause the bearing to sit kitty-wampus on the spindle I don't think it is a problem.  I will let more informed minds to answer.

Like Steve said. Sand it down with some emery cloth just to make it smooth, just the gouges and not all the way around and keep an eye on it to make sure that bearing cup isn’t spinning on the spindle.

Ditto on keeping an eye on it. I'd drive it about 25-50 miles, around town, on the highway. Then just recheck that side for being tight on the spindle nut. There is nothing "riding" on that area. It probably was turned to the lower limit on the dia." specs.

I torqued them to 12lbs and took it for a short drive. Checked them again and they still felt snug with no play then took it for a longer drive with some highway. I will keep an eye on them. I still have a few weeks to drive it before the trip to the Western Meet. I’ll take it to work (30 min highway driving) a bunch over the next few weeks.

I initially posted here around 4 AM, but it was lost in the site repairs, lol. We discussed it on the phone though, so all is good, lol

Yeah, like you need a reason or better yet an excuse to drive your Monte.
