Scott S. Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Rebuilds or brand new ??? I wasn't impressed with the TCI version that came with Montelishi...... The entire transmission was one of their rebuilds. (TH 350) Slipped a bit, and when I swapped in the 200r4, I found that they'd used a "lock up" case for the torque for the TH 350. My transmission guy thought that was pretty strange of them to do. Well, if it was hooked up, it might have made sense..... But there wasn't anything to activate it. Kinda stumped both of us. My understanding of the lock up is that it's more for long use, steady RPM driving. Keeps the fluid cooler. Quote

No im not not even close. I dunno i might just run the tci. Yu said you had a bad one. I have alot of money in trans. Dont want a faulty convertor...thing is all these reveiws except tsi were from over 5 yrs ago..some almost 20 Quote

I thought was so lets say yu have a 2600 to 2800 stall yu could set lock at let say 2700...thats what i thought to eliminate any slip Quote
Scott S. Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Oh no.... A lock up torque uses a pressure solenoid to press the input and driven plates together for direct contact. Eliminates the fluid friction and keeps it cooler. Just had a look at TSI's website. Looks like they know what they're talking about. (fingers crossed) 1 Quote

There website looks like theyre the best lol...but bad reviews. Bout welds and slippage Quote
Scott S. Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Had to look that one up..... Looks like a very specialize shop/builder. Be interesting to see what kind of reviews he has.... But if they're good, might be worth checking out. 1 Quote

I dunno its a 2800 to 3200 convertor wich i think would be perfect for streetv I might keep the boss hog...could be people installing them not spacing right...no cooler ..etc.. 2 Quote
Leghome Posted June 10 Posted June 10 When I got my 72 in 2011 it just didn’t seem to shift correctly and sometimes the starter would spin, not engage and grind. My mechanic son in-law crawled under the car and found th PO had installed the flex plate backwards. Put on another flex plate correctly and both problems cleared up 3 Quote

72 Monte Carlo Posted June 11 Posted June 11 https://www.a-1perf.com/ I had this company build my 2,500 stall converter for my 72 Monte. They custom build the converter to your engine, camshaft requirements, transmission, rearend gear ratio, rear tire size, exhaust, carb, etc. They have been building custom torque converters and transmissions since 1959, and their converters have been used by many racers, including my personal good friend that drag races his fox body mustang. They're very familiar with the variable rpm stall issue that quite a few B & M holeshot converters exhibit. 4 Quote

He was very, very knowledgeable and explained why they need all the info on your vehicle in the custom order/build form. so it helps them build the converter to match your car's build. He stated that their converter stall speed will always be at the stated rpm it is built for and isn't a variable rpm stall like 2,800 - 3,200 rpm. I think I paid around $390 - $400 shipped for mine when I had them build it for me. Quote

72 Monte Carlo Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I think it was in 2023 when I had them build my converter. I don't drive like a grandpa or grandma. My Monte is in the process of getting repainted for the last few years, so I've only drove it down the street to my body shop friend's shop a couple of times, and I haven't been able to drive it out on the roads yet. Hopefully we are painting it within 30 days now. The built 414 ci Big Block I have in it, has a Lunati Voodoo Camshaft 10110703LUN cam, valve springs, timing kit, with oversized Ferrea SS racing valves, heads opened up some, big tube Hooker Competition ceramic coated headers, etc. 1 Quote
