Rob Peters Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Jason, Welcome aboard the boards. We hope you like what you see here and decide to become a full fledged dues paying member of the club. I think we have one or two other members in the Phoenix area. One that comes to mind has multiple Monte's and lives in Surprise, just west of Phoenix. Congrats on finding your High School Monte, it must have been a thrill to track it down and even more to find it in such nice condition, she looks beautiful. rob 2 Quote

Rob Peters Posted June 16 Posted June 16 6 hours ago, FL 72 Monte said: Wish I could get some of my old cars back, Other than my original Monte Carlo the only two cars I really liked that we owned were a 1980 Chevy Citation Hatchback. It was such a versatile car. It was a 6 cylinder and was way over powered. It had factory rally wheels and trim rings and had fading stripes on the side sort of like the Citation X-11. That thing was fast. The other on was a 1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 6 Cylinder Diesel. Unlike the GM 350 gas engines they used to set up as diesels without building them properly as diesel, these 6 cyl diesels were designed and built to be diesels. It was heavier than a regular Cutlass Ciera. With the added weight it really rode smooth. The only real issue with that diesel was in the middle of the winter when the engine block heater quit working in the middle of the coldest week of winter. It was out of warranty and they wanted over $1,000 to replace that $10 engine block heater. I ended up doing it and then understood why it cost so much. The block heater was installed on the back side of the engine up high with just enough room between the back of the block the firewall. I could get a 12point box end wrench on it (not enough room for a socket and ratchet) and only turn the nut about 1/8 of an inch at a time. It took almost 3 hours to loosen the nut enough that the heater would come out of the block and when it did it poured anti-freeze all over me and the ground. I was soaked in anti-freeze laying under the car on the coldest day of the year. I had to take my thermal lined coveralls and wash and dry them before I could go back out and install the new one. The temps that day were near zero. Even with that, I loved that car. rob 2 Quote

Welcome to the club I wish I had my 66 Pontiac GTO hardtop, my 77 Chevy Cheyenne SWB 4x4, and my 78 Chevy Cheyenne SWB 4x4. They were great rigs that I should have kept. 1 Quote
Canuck Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Welcome Jason! That’s amazing you were able to find your Monte after all those years. That must have been a happy moment when you realized you found it. I purchased mine in 1996 when I was 19 and hung onto it. If you don’t mind a little road trip it is not too late to join us in Logan, UT for the Western Meet in a couple weeks. Even if the Monte can’t make the trip it’s still a great time with a fun group. 2 Quote
Leghome Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Only one or two cars I wish I had back and that was my 1966 Cadillac DeVille Convertable. Powder blue with a black top and interior and maybe my 1961 Impala bubble top 283 power pack heads adn 3 speed on the column I had converted to a floor shift 1 Quote

72 Monte Carlo Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Jason, Did your Monte come from the factory with a vinyl top? If so, are you going to install one on it? What color of interior are you going with, and what color are you painting the car? Quote
