Jeff Dodson Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Does this look normal or bent in a bit. Need to know before I try and hammer it out. 1 Quote
GRAY 70 Monte Carlo Posted June 16 Posted June 16 To me that appears to have been repaired in the past possibly even had the rear body panel replaced. I would be concerned about trunk sealing properly. If it was me I would get in the trunk have someone close the trunk look for any light then have them spray water around trunk see if any water is coming in .if not then I would do a little hammering and dollying then a thin skim of a plastic filler 3 Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Looks like something is a little twisted up. Has the car ever been in an accident? Possibly someone replaced the tail panel with a used one after a fender bender? Probably can't see it until you open the truck. 1 Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 Anybody have or can take a good picture of one undamaged 1 Quote
jft69z Posted June 16 Posted June 16 From my 72. Night and day difference. Notice the spot welds on the original body vs. the welded joint on your car? Plus the wrinkled metal, etc. Something has been done back there before. As mentioned earlier, check to see how it fits against the weatherstrip, and maybe evidence of a replaced rear panel, or quarter panels. 5 Quote
Jeff Dodson Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 So its still has the dip between the top of the fender and the trunk seal... so its not that far out... THANK YOU 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Maybe your Monte was assembled on a Monday/Friday ???? Looks like they used a little extra caulk on the seam. 1 Quote
klassic rob Posted June 16 Posted June 16 think that is a good idea , get inside the trunk look for lightcomming in, i would at least knock the weld down a pinch, although if you see no light snd it is water tight, maybe just replace the seal and let it ride. no hammering first. 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Regarding leaking.... The seal has the joint at the top, and for some reason, mine leaked during rainstorms. Water got in at the top and worked it's way down and into the trunk at the tail panel overlaps. Wound up caulking the joint, seems to have done the trick. 1 Quote
GRAY 70 Monte Carlo Posted June 17 Posted June 17 The seam should be at the bottom by the latch striker 2 Quote
