RON T Posted July 1 Posted July 1 This months feature presentation at Somernites cruise in Somerset Ky this past Saturday included The General Lee , of the hit TV series “ The Dukes of Hazard” jumping the large fountain in the cities town square. A Dodge Charger RT replica of the original style Dodge , provided by and performed by The Northeastern Dukes of Ohio Car club.. General Lee suffered severe damage however. Here are a few photos of the event .. more videos and photos can be found on Somernites Cruise facebook … Ron T.. 10 Quote
cbolt Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Well I am sure they knew the car would suffer severe damage. That is uber cool. 3 Quote
willie Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Thanks for sharing Ron, very cool pics. Were you there also???? 3 Quote
Rob Peters Posted July 1 Posted July 1 A Chevy wouldn't have fallen apart like that, but of course a Chevy driver would have been smart enough to drive around the fountain. rob 4 2 Quote

I had watched other general Lee jumps on u tube , but this time the terrain was down hill and black top. The car landed on its nose , and did more damage.. luckily it didn’t flip.. people were way tooo close.. 6 Quote
Marks71 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 OK, so it wasn’t the camera angle. My first thought was that there was no way those people could’ve been that close. Plus they were grouped so tight, where were they going to go if the ol General needed another 75’? 1 Quote

It seems they realized they needed to put a lot of ballast in the trunk of the cars to prevent them from nosing down. There is a lot of interesting information about the cars; what they did with them, where they were built, etc. if anyone is interested in looking. In some cases the cars had to be reused in later years of the show because they were running out of sources for '69 chargers. 2 Quote

72 Monte Carlo Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I imagine that General Lee Charger was a bare bone rusted one that someone thought it wasn't worth saving, but I feel each Charger they jump and destroy just seems pointless. I'm sure there are replacement frames, tubs, etc., but there are a lot less of those Chargers around. Every time they destroy another one, the market price of Chargers just went up a few thousand dollars more. 1 Quote
Leghome Posted July 5 Posted July 5 There is now much of a frame to a charger as they were unibocy with a sub frame out front. Quote
