What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Recommended Posts

Classic one today as it has happened a couple of times but you gotta love it..... Pull into the gas station today to fill Monte up and the guy at the far pump (some 6 pumps away) looks over and quite loudly says " Sweet Jesus is that a thing of beauty" followed by as he walks closer " What the bejesus is that they never made a convertible Monte"........??????

Ah the summer has finally started and hahahahahaha the confusion continues....

Darren.

New points, condenser, cap, and rotor installed tonight. Checked dwell with the meter and reset the timing. Reset the mixture screws and the idle to factory settings. I took it for a cruise and put in some fresh 94 octane. Ran really well.

Pulled gas tank to replace hoses and sending unit. Build sheet was on top of tank but almost totally disentegrated. Tried to piece it together but it fell apart in my hands. Found an orange plastic cap inise the tank. It is about 2-inches dia. Have no idea how or why it is in there. I think the fuel gauge float was getting stuck on it. The fuel gauge stopped at 1/4 tank.

So I was messing around with the dash and replacing some burned out bulbs

One thing led to another and I took this hose off, could not believe what I found in it

You better keep on digging, if you have that pile of rats nest in that hose there are plenty more elsewhere. Heres one of several I found in my heat/AC box. Those will certainly affect the performance of your heat & AC. I had about 4 rats nests inside my box, there is no way the vacuum actuated doors would be able to function at all.

Got home Sunday morning from the Eastern meet and had to dry the car off as he hit rain on the way back. Then I pulled two plugs just to get an ideal of how the car was doing after it's 21 miles on the highway and though town and didn't like the signs of a white plug.

Got it all cleaned up after running the last 60 miles on wet roads and a slight drizzle. Four hours later it looked gooder/N/new. Went to an unusual Monday afternoon car show at the local horsetrack/Casino. This is the 5th year they have held this show and it has always been on Monday. 295 Cars is a great turnout but the prizes are a big draw. $500 for best of Show, $500 for the General Managers pick, $200 for the Asst. Manager Pick and another $200 for oh crap I forget what it was for. Oh well had a good time and free hotdogs, chips and a cold soda or water. Lots of great cars and many many good people to talk with and brag about the FGMCC.

Today a mechanic that had been recommended to me by my neighbor came by and looked at my car to see what it was going to need to make it right. He was not impressed at all with what Turn Key Engines had for the harness set up. It is for marine applications. I should have done more research back then.

He is going to look into getting me the best deal for my money to make it right. I think he'll give me a fair deal because after talking with him for a while I discovered he was friends with my brother Fred back in the seventies and knew my brother Joe as well. He shared all kinds of funny stories about my brother Fred who we lost back in 2000.

He's going to call in the next few day with an estimate on a new wiring harness and GM computer.

I haven't driven her in over 3 years. My goal is to get her to Spokane this year for the Western Meet. I will be there regardless but I really want my Monte there.

Installed new Chrome Monte Carlo License Plate Frames (Rear with Oregon Plate & Front with FGMCC Plate). Not sure if front legal in Oregon but am going to find out. Because my vehicle is registered as SP (Special Interest), only one rear plate issued. Needed to fill up front bumper with something and what better than FGMCC! cool

Thanks Doug! I hope it works out too! I look forward to seeing you and other members again that I met back in 2010 and meeting new members that will be in Spokane. Sounds like this year will be an attendance record breaker for a Western meet! Can't wait! I'll be there with or without my 71 but I will be driving a Monte one way or another. cool

Some say we look like brothers from another mother. LOL grin
