What is the difference between a 70 Monte carlos instrumentation  ( guage cluster) and say one from a 71 or 72? I am looking for a 70 yet all I find is 71&2

Hi Bob. The main difference is the gauge lettering/number colors. The 71-72s are white and the 70 is greenish. Floor shifters don't have the P-R-N-D-2-1 at the bottom of the speedometer where column shifted Montes do.

Bob,

Tom is correct on the difference in the color of the lighting between the 70 and the 71/72.  You mention "Gauge Cluster".  The Monte's came standard with idiot lights rather than gauge's.  The major differences in the Gauge Clusters would be in the Tach, if it is a big block or a small block in the red-line.  I think everything else was pretty much the same.

If you go from idiot lights to gauges you need to change the circuit board on the back of the cluster
