Black strip below trunk?

Hey guys is the black strip just below the trunk on an SS just painted? Or is it a garnish piece?

It is just a satin black paint.

Okay great! I was worried that I would have to find that part.. I just have a pile of metal striping from when I bought the car so I don't know what I may need.

There is the thin upper trim that you need. The centre piece is the same as the lower one but the upper trim on the left and right (referred to as hockey sticks) is specific to 71 SS only. The hockey sticks are now reproduced but original ones fit better.

Okay I believe that I have two of the hockey sticks. Do I need 4 upper and lower?

Yes you need the lower ones also. The bottom ones are common as all 1970 and 71 Montes had them.
