willie Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 I need to know what numbers should be on a 71 carb, is it the same as my 72 (7042220)? Also on a 71 rear i don't know what the A means (IRUC 223A)? I am sure its the original because the numbers are on my build sheet. Tkx Quote
714024SPEED Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 The carb numbers will be a little different. Quick breakdown. 70= all q jets through 1976 4=decade of production. 2=1972 year made . So you need a 1 there. 5=q jet. 1=Chevy Next number if even is for auto trans, odd numbers manual trans Dg=customer code on build sheet 0260=example of date code 1=year Good luck hope this helps Quote
jft69z Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 The below carb chart is from the 71 Monte GM archives. The rear looks to be a: RU - 3.31 non posi 12 bolt C - Buffalo plant assembly 223 - looks to be Julian date of Aug 10th (70 would have been month/date of Feb 23rd according to below links) A (or 1 on some) could be first shift at plant Excerpt of info regarding 70/71 date code changes: The 1971 model year saw a slight change in the schema of the ratio and date stamping. The axle assembly plant code letter was moved from the last position to the 3rd position, such as CF C in the example. The two-letter ratio code and plant letter may be stamped together or may be separated by a noticeable space like "CFC" or "CF C." There were no hard-and-fast rules on this. The date format was changed from the previous month/day format to a Julian date code of the calendar year the assembly was built. Since the 1971 model year was introduced in September of 1970, any 1971 Chevelles built in calendar year 1970 would have a rather large Julian date. Some early calendar year Chevelles would also have a 1970 calendar year rear end date as supplies were exhausted. The 1972 model year Chevelle would follow the same theme as 1971 model year Chevelles. A rather large Julian date would mean a late 1971 calendar year rear end assembly would have gone into early model year 1972 Chevelles. http://chevellestuff.net/1971/rear_axle.htm http://chevellestuff.net/qd/rear_axle_info.htm Quote
