willie Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 This is for a SS with a 400 tranny I have no driveshaft and was wondering if someone had the measurements to have one built. I am having a 350 shaft cut down. Thanks Quote
jft69z Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 When Denny's built mine, he had a work sheet that wanted very specific measurements. Do you have a drive shaft place mind & if so ask what measurements he needs. I have the drive shaft out of my 402/T400 sitting here I can measure, but you'll need a new front yoke anyways for the T400 output shaft. https://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/app/webroot/img/File/how_to_measure_diagrams/b.html Call me if you want and I can measure what I have here as we speak. Dtret Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 I have my 71 SS original. Let me know what you need if Joes don’t work out Quote
jft69z Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 I just spoke with him Dennis and I'm going to measure mine up when I get out there later (nap time before work). Still may be helpful to measure yours too, since it's out of the car. I'm going to measure center/center of the shaft at the u-joints, and the tip of the front yoke to the center of the front u-joint. Thanks! Quote
jft69z Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Mine measured out to 54.25" and the yoke, tip to center of u-joint is 7-9/16" Quote
jft69z Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 LOL, well that's 3 different measurements now 😕 Quote
Dtret Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 We all measured center of u-joint cap to center of u- joint cap? Quote
Dtret Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 So I tried to use my micrometer but it was a little short ( by about 6 inches) Quote

willie Posted March 12, 2021 Author Posted March 12, 2021 Tkx guys. Tom i spoke to you first but needed more info, didn't have time to call so i posted this. Joe spoke to you but felt bad i woke you. (believe me i could use that power nap here and there myself). I did get a worksheet from the guy i am going to use but his is not nearly as specific as yours is. Dennis i noticed in the pic that your shaft has a collar on it, not sure if Joe has a collar on his but maybe that's where the difference is? When i did my 72 shaft there is NO collar on it. The shaft i have from the 350 car DOES have a collar. (Strange i think) OK now all i need is the distance from the tailshaft to the flat edge of the pinion yoke. (Total space between the 2.) Again Tkx to ALL!!! Quote
jft69z Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 No worries on waking me up, I'm used to no sleep with my goofy work schedule. The shaft for my present 72 did not have a collar. We discussed this in a thread when I first started taking my car apart. Seems some had it, some didn't. My older 72 with 350 had the collar. When I get a chance later, I'll find that thread and post it. EDIT: look here and down a few more, we discussed it a bit. Quote
willie Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 I remember that thread now. LOL and still no rhyme or reason the collar is on some and not the others. But it doesn't tell me the distance between end of tranny to the front portion of the rear yoke? I measured on mine yesterday and got 57 1/2". Does that sound right to everyone? Quote
Dtret Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Sorry I can’t help on end of trans measurement. It’s really not in the car. It is on a shelf though. Lol Quote
jft69z Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 That number will vary depending on the actual ride height of the car, suspension loading, etc. If it's hanging in the air, it'll be different than if it were on the wheels, or fully loaded. 1 Quote
willie Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 I understand that the car needs to be on the ground, just wanted to see if anyone else had some kind of measurement in there head that i was in the ballpark with my number. Thanks guys Quote
jft69z Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 The measurements from my car won't help as it sits, because I have a 4L85E trans in there now that needed a custom driveshaft. Quote
