TheBMan Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Another A/C question. See attached pictures. Believe it or not, the actuator holds vacuum and tests good. The door is mysterious to me. I'm pretty sure it's used to seal off fresh air from coming into the evaporator box when the A/C is on recirculate but it's difficult to tell how it seals exactly. Is there supposed to be some sort of seal around the edge of the flapper door? I see no support for the door at all other than the pin that hooks it from the actuator. Does it just flop around otherwise? Anyone have any experience with these? I also need to check the one in the kick panel but haven't done that yet. Thanks! Quote
jft69z Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Your top pic uses that door to seal the cowl area. If you look at the contour, it seals (basically, at best) the section that goes down along the side of the cowl. The door rotates and opens, or seals off that area. Mine actually worked too on the '72, but the actuator arm pin was busted off. Quote
TheBMan Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 Thanks for the info, Joe. I guess they thought this was good enough back in the day. Seems odd to not have any kind of foam seal or anything else but I guess it is what it is. I'll clean everything up and put it back together. @jft69z - any tips on the one behind the passenger kick panel? I haven't dug into that one yet. I suspect it's not working because I'm not getting recirculated air on Max A/C. Quote
jft69z Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 The kick panel one is just as basic. That one works off vacuum too, so do the same steps you did earlier to check that one out as far as the actuator, linkage binding, etc. Quote
TheBMan Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 @jft69z Thanks Joe! I really appreciate the input! Sometimes things look right but don't feel right. Having you and others to bounce this stuff off of is so helpful! Bryan Quote
