  2. Some photos of a gathering we had this weekend. My 1970 Monte had a brake booster issue so I drove my 1973 442 instead. Thursday night car show, Friday cruise, Friday night car show, Saturday car show. Total of 8 first gen Montes during the weekend.

  5. Yes there is a little village called wampsville and they have one of the areas larger car shows of the year, today was it and weather was beautiful. I'd estimate about 500 to 600 cars of that I saw 5 first gens, 3 members and one guy I talked to and gave him a card the other I've talked to before. I didn't walk around a lot but I did get around and saw and met some new people too. I was parked with 3 other montes mine a couple 76s and an 85. Here's a few pictures. And one for Rob 😀

  6. Yes, the wiper switch's metal housing must be grounded. It uses the same strap that goes under the headlight shaft nut. For 1972, the harness and switch were improved to have a wired ground to the switch which has an extra ground terminal. In use, the wiper motor and washer pump both get ignition + anytime the key is on via the black/dark blue/yellow wire. While the motor ground is from the motor case to mounting bolt strap, the first ground from the switch triggers the motor out of park and into low speed, the second ground from the switch triggers high speed. When the switch is turned to off, these grounds disappear and the motor cycles into park then off. Pushing the switch in forces it into low speed if it was off and sends a third ground to the washer solenoid to pump washer fluid. A small motor driven pump is available that fits into the stock pump housing which works better than the factory plunger pump. To ensure a better ground at the switch, I soldered a wire to the switch's metal housing. If the motor to mounting bolt ground strap is poor, the low speed resistor will smoke and you'll be off to the store for a new one. The ground strap is critical. I added a ground wire to the motor case. If you buy a rebuilt motor, make sure it has the correct number of terminals, the rubber mounting feet and ground strap before you surrender your core.

  9. I've created a precision engine wiring harness diagram. This covers all Chevrolet A-body cars. Some corrections and additions were made to the original drawing. The numbers in the wire lines are wire gauge sizes. 6 cylinder engines got a 6 gauge battery cable set, V8 engines got a 4 gauge set. The orange blower wire is used on non-AC cars. When AC was added, this wire is cut and blunted in the harness near the bulkhead plug.

  10. Rob is correct on both counts. The reason people say they are “ early “ is because GM discontinued them early. But the parts that were already made were to be used. In late 69 the GM strike at Flint threw this all off, so the parts were distributed to all the remaining plants and kept them being put on cars later than planned. My 70 SS Flint car started being built in late 69 ( proof is the paint numbers on the cowl) but ended up with an April build date and yes it has both.

  14. Just a note regarding Ron's above post.. when Ron said "Rob Peters is in charge of this" he was only referring to arranging the hotel, Ron is doing all of the other planning and deserves the credit.... or blame 🙂 rob

  17. Hey everyone, does anybody have or know of someone who is looking to sell a 70 big block car? If it doesn’t have a motor or transmission, that’s okay. I’m building a convertible, with Jared’s knowledge and expertise. A loaded up car would be nice. Color is not necessary. Don’t want a rust bucket. Thanks. Jeff in nj.

  19. Just one addition to my original statement. When I said MOST 70's had the FULL Halo is a true statement. Some assembly lines, part way through the production year, were running out of the Full Halo trim and started using the 71/72 Halo trim that ran all the way to the windshield. The majority of the people here are aware of this but some newer members may not know. Also, you will see on Facebook Monte groups and sometime here on this site that the Full Halo was an early 70 only thing but we do know that is not true. My car was born in the Baltimore plant in the third week of June in 1970 and it has the Full Halo. Being born in the third week of June means it was just days from the shutdown of the assembly line for 70 Monte's and start of production of the 71 Monte's. One other misconception you will see on Facebook Monte groups is people saying the chrome strip on the bottom of 1970 Monte front fender extensions (below the headlights) was an early 70 only item. Again, this is not true because my Monte also was born with these trim pieces. rob

  20. I think my monte is telling me that it wants a Dakota Digital. While I was out for a cruise last night, I noticed that the fuel guage isn't working. So......Who am I to argue?
