  • Decoding Engine

    The engine block has two sets of codes stamped on the flat machined surface just in front of the passenger side head. The larger letters/numbers make up the engine identification code, the smaller characters make up the division code (Chevrolet) and a partial VIN. The alternator needs to be swung out of the way in order to see this area.

    Note that if the code starts with CE then it was a warranty replacement block. There will not be a code that matches your VIN.
