  • Decoding Transmission

    This page is for the Powerglide, Turbo Hydramatic 350, 4-speed manual and 3-speed manual transmissions. 
    For Turbo Hydramatic 400 transmissions click here

    Each transmission will have the last 8 characters of the VIN stamped on the housing preceded by a "1" indicating it is a Chevrolet.
    Example: 11B123456
    Chevrolet vehicle (1), 1971 (1) built in Baltimore (B) with a sequence number 123456 (123456)

    The transmission in some cases may have a code identifying the type of transmission and when it was built. See below for those codes.
    Example: P0S09
