  1. that sounds more like it... maybe as they wear they get hung up and can be coaxed back into enough contact to run a few more times...that "dead spot" phrase was what we went with back in 1977 or so...what did we know...only that the hammer worked!!
  2. I know this may sound silly but occasionally with a GM starter that goes 'dead' intermittently it was a dead spot on the armature.. we would go under and gently tap the case with a hammer and it usually worked..of course the next step was to swap out the starter... but with multiple components between "the key and the flywheel" it can be a pain to narrow down as you have shared...
  3. and if you go with changing the top you will get a good visual if anything hidden is starting...as you know ,around back window corners... peace of mind and a beautiful new top!!
  4. imagine if it was a "W" code, some of us might need therapy...but lets face it a "U" code is bad enough!!
  5. yes it would be interesting to see what that beauty sold for and contrasting to that little honey Dennis just pulled outta Texas, its so nice to see one cared for in this manner!!!
  6. that looks like it might have been some kind of pine they are large above ground but as the pic shows not much of a root system/they like to fall over
  7. sometimes worry will get you sooner than the chemicals it seems.... these guys were from a different generation and tough as nails
  8. it may not run...but has a good chance of driving...driving you crazy that is ! and as Rob stated rusting out that good ole steel straight thru? that don't happen overnite. even new jerseys toxic acid rain would have to work at it
  9. "pain, misery and happiness"? seems like one can't exist without the others... I didn't know him ,but to build your last engine at 92...and spend your life doing something you love...that's what it's all about! RIP sir!!
  10. Congratulations very nice !
  11. If it's optioned as you said...Why yes it is a shame... and totally unnecessary. Maybe it fell into the old "but no, I'm gonna restore it some day dear, I really am! As much as I would prefer to live in a perfect world ,sadly we do not so "ya can't save 'em all" but Dennis you sure do try and that's just great!!

72 small block custom , van nuys plant... (late build? fisher body tag reads 3/72) spent about 24 years in CA, then 7 yrs in lynwood, WA I like what the owner had posted.. I have too many projects ,this car is too nice to sit around outside, "needs a new protective guardian" I guess that's me...nothing special ,a really fun driver ,needed some attention ,which she got...
  14. thanks everyone! ...it seems like only yesterday i said...well, I'm new here, will I be comfortable at a "meet", maybe I shouldn't go ,blah blah but it was and is a great group, and so many great times. ..and yes I can't believe "yesterday" was 20 years ago!! happy to be part of it all...these members, like the first gens we cherish ,stand out from the crowd...thanks again!!
  15. And as to patina ,a few months back the cover of Hagerty's "Drivers Club" magazine titled "the patina issue" very enjoyable article there's something to be said about a solid old machine that wears her mileage well...
