Wasn’t on the car when I got it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was trying to get pictures on the post this morning and ran out of time. The car was restored in 1990. Paint, interior ect by the owner of the best body shop around. Triple black with power driver seat and power windows. Single stage lacquer paint still looks incredible but it does show a form of lacquer check in certain lighting. Most never see it. The engine was gone through with just a quick dingleberry hone and new rings. It has less than 5000 miles on it since being done in 1990. I put an electronic ignition and headers from ARH but have original distributor and exhaust manifolds. No rust and is a very solid car. I did put photos of it quite a while ago just to see if anyone was interested and put a silly high price on it but really wasn’t sure if I wanted to sell it. I think $65k is very fair for a rare car in this condition.

Hello to all. Over the last several months I have been thinking of selling my ‘71 454 SS and am now going to do it. I would like to get it to someone who really wants a true SS. I have the original build sheet and the car is in excellent condition. I’m asking $65k If interested please reach out to me for pics and more info. 559-287-8629. Jeff

Well, the good news is that I bought some new flare nut wrenches and flare nut crows feet for the tool box.

Thanks Cody. I'm guessing that the flare was seated pretty well as it didn't leak until now. I will check to see if there is a mark on the line and go from there.

Has anyone had issues with leaky brake proportioning valves? The current one was installed 4 months ago and is already leaking. My Chevelle buddies are saying they have had the same problem with the brass ones. Are there any cast iron ones available?

I pulled out the old ac pump and installed the new one. The car is running great. The plugs on the bowls sealed up nicely as well. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks David. I just received my carb kit from Cliff yesterday. The rubber boot installed on the original pump didn't fit very well. The kit from Cliff has the new accelerator pump with the Ethanol boot installed. I will pick up some JB weld to seal up the leaky bowls as well today.

Thanks Mark. It looks like I only need about a half inch more to be able to pull the shifter into first gear. Without the rod, can I still get the key lock to go back to the position needed to remove the key? Anyway, it is so close, I will keep trying to adjust it and try to pick up just a little more travel on the tranny linkage mount.

Does anyone know if there is a different bracket or a way to adjust the bracket connecting the rod that connects the transmission to the steering lock rod. ARH headers went on perfectly but I cannot pull the shifter into first gear without the bracket hitting the top of the header tubes under the car.

Does anyone know the standard length of the accelerator pump shaft for a "71 Quadrajet? I'm seeing lengths from 2.43" to 2.76". I didn't want to pull the existing pump out if I didn" have to. Also, can anyone explain the reasons for the different lengths performance wise? Thanks!

Thanks for chiming in Mark, Yeah, under the car when we were wrapping up the header install, I was really happy on how well everything went and the clearances, including the trans linkage. I am guessing but there might be some adjustment in the linkage to allow about another inch or so of movement.

Gtreetings all! After working through some driveability issues with the Monte Carlo, I am happy to say that I am getting close to having the fuel issues worked out. I had to drop the tank and clean out all of the crap, replace the sending unit, fuel pump along with a carb rebuild. The accelerator pump rubber diaphragm didn't really fit well and I will order an new pump today. The float bowls on the carb seem to drain out overnight and it takes a while to start after sitting. I will address that when I put in the new accelerator pump. I installed Headers this weekend and everything went way to easy. ARH is the way to go in my book. I do have a problem with the transmission linkage hitting when I tried to pull it down into first gear. Does anyone know if there is a modified bracket that would allow a little more movement of the linkage? Thanks!!! Jeff
