Another dash light thread
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Wow, this is the first time in my life that a fuse turned out to be the problem. I've always dreamed of this happening and it never does. But indeed that was it. It didn't look blown because there are two wires in it. One was still there. Hopefully I can find this little guy. Thanks for the help! -
Another dash light thread
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
No, it was there when I bought the car about 5 years ago. Seems like it wouldn't just stop working completely...some wiggling and turning should do SOMETHING, right? Do rheostats just fail? I dunno. Always always something. -
I've read the other "dash lights aren't working" threads but they aren't exactly the same so... My dash lights were working when I parked at a restaurant, and then were completely out when I restarted. They have never not worked. It's the stock gauges AND the Vintage Air light that are not working. Basically anything that dims. When I play around with the switch I get zero signs of life. But the dome light and headlights still work using the switch. The E-brake light still comes on. No fuses are blown. Does anyone know which stock fuse is used for dash lights? Thanks for any help.

It really is hard to believe they don't think it's angled on Montes. They even called me to tell me that I am "using the wrong booster bracket and to shim it straight or replace it". Even after telling the guy that I verified it with 100% certainty, he didn't believe me. So weird. I just gave up.

For future reference, I don't recommend buying Wilwood Master 260-8555 for our cars...as recommended by Wilwood for my '72 Monte. They also refuse to believe that the Monte or Chevelle came with an angled master from the factory (mind numbing). The correct Wilwood master would have been 261-16962. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wil-261-16962-bk?srsltid=AfmBOoq_ClTA7PgInH8UFonIOs7Pwi0pcLEDfjh-DiiGC4xZokNQE9of8Bs

Did you tap the hole or let the screw tap the aluminum? As far as a sealing washer, I guess copper or plastic but not rubber, right?

Interesting jft.

So I upgraded my failing master with a Wilwood. As you can see by the photo, this particular Wilwood doesn't handle the angle. It shares fluid from front to back and if I fill the front to proper level, fluid runs out the rear...even with the seal and cover on. So Wilwood is saying that '72 Montes shouldn't have the angled booster/master and I have the wrong booster. I'm fairly certain I removed the original booster and master and it was at the same angle. Right?

Shift indicator removal

Well, for some reason Ecklers had a new floor shift speedo for 50% less than anyone else. Couldn't pass that up. $75 -
Shift indicator removal
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Ahhh right...that makes sense. If I want to be cheap, do you know if there is a way to get the clear cover off the guage? -
Has anyone ever had their hands in the shift indicator on automatic steering columns? I'm looking into ways to make it disappear in one way or another. Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows if there is a way to remove some or all of it. If I can get into the guage I could at least make a cover plate.

What does this relay do?
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
It did end up being for the horn. Replaced it with a waterproof relay and the horn is back. -
There is an old relay located behind the battery...my horn has stopped working and I'm guessing it's this relay that is no longer clicking. I'm wondering if that's what it is and what else it's up to. Or maybe it's a previous owners work. Anyhow, if anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated as always.

How would you go about making a fuse box cover/protector?
