nope, word for word along with a pic....1968 Chevy Monte Carlo

So, a buddy of mine posted on fb his new "1968" Monte Carlo. I said "68??? No such thing, 1969 was the first production year for the 1970 Monte", ...so I thought. He said according to the VIN it is, I asked what the 6th digit in his VIN is, it should be 0, 1 or 2...again, so I thought. He says "8" wtw??? Am I wrong, someone fill me in please.
