Welcome aboard, I looks like you bought a very nice car!

Correction: Lars Grimsrud is his name
-
When you google Lars, use this: Lars Grimstad Qudrajets or Lars Grimstad Corvettes
-
Lars Grimsrud has an excellant reputation among Corvette owners for his expertise on Quadrajets. You can google his name and find a lot about him. His email is: v8fastcars@msn.com

Nice job Paul.

I am using the recommend Hellas and they are great. The part number quoted on Amazon does not include bulbs.
-
Dan Janes (Overdrive) has them.

1970 SS 454 with federal emissions and original carb. Did they come with manifold or ported vacuum from the factory?
-
I use NAPA Fleet or Gates Green Stripe heater hoses. These hoses last a long time and are the best that I have found. You can hide the green stripe on the Gates or the gold stripe on the NAPA buy rotating the hoses. You also could use a wide black marker to color the stripes.
-
I don't believe that original heater hose had any numbers on them They sell heater hose with GM logos on them, but none of the GM cars I owned in the 70s had them. I remember black hose with ribs on them.

The intake manifold is designed for the Quadrajet spread bore carb. A Holley would require a different intake manifold.
-
If your engine is stock, the original Quadrajet will give you the best fuel ecnomy and good performance. Switching to a Holley will likely cause you to use more fuel. If your carb is giving you trouble, have it rebuilt by someone like Lars Grimstad, who can be found on the internet.

I have a 4 core radiator, HD fan clutch, 180 deg. thermostat, 50% antifreeze, factory AC and the correct coolant level. I never loose any water. Why would I need an overflow tank?

Air Conditioning Restoration Part II

One should go to the hot water valve in the heatwr hose. The other one should go to the vacuum reserve canister next to the evaporator housing. -
When I was a member of the Oregon National Guard we were required to get a top secret security clearance in order to receive training at two missel bases in the Seattle area. When being interviewed by a major, he asked me if I had ever been in trouble with the law, I said that I was convicted of minor in possession of alcohol. The major replied: " don't worry about that, everybody has had one of those. I got the clearance.

I have verified that my factory AC Monte Carlo has a Standard Motor Products RY11 relay and it works. Some 4 terminal relays like the RY8 look the same, but are wired differently internally. [The RY8 is used on my 62 Impala with AC.]
-
The 5 terminal relay will not work with the early Monte Carlo with factory AC. The coil can't be energized with our wiring and the high speed fan setting will not work. If you look at the 5 terminal wiring schmetic you will see that both termonal 4 and 5 must be connected to work. You have a 3 terminal wire connector and a single one which is the ground. I believe that the Standard Motor Products RY11 is the correct relay. I will verify this tomorrow and post an update.

My blue cap arrived today, very nice. Great job Joe!

I had a problem with fuel starvation at full throttle. I replaced the carb inlert fuel filter and it cured the problem.

Paul, I would like to see a photo of the bracket and solenoid. I might purchase it. Chevy Dave

I have a 70 SS454 wihh the original carb. I would like to add an AC solinoid to the carb. I purchased one from a 71 Corvette with a 454 and AC, and it did not fit. Doe's anyone know of one from another GM car that would fit. I think that an idle stop solinoid would also work if wired to the compressor circuit.
-
My first car was a 1961 black Impala with a 305 hp 348 and a factory 4 speed and Positraction.

A word of caution, be carefull with used columns. The tilt column on my 70 would not allow the ignition switch to engage the starter. I spent about $700 with shipping to have the column rebuilt. I missed taking my Monte Carlo to the NW Meet of the VCCA because of the failure last year. There are over 70 pieces to the column and it can be diffucult to find them.
