  1. I do like the way the dark green looks...but if I'm not going to do white it's going to be paint code 45 for sure.
  2. Definitely not flipping. I like the idea of the green, especially if it's uncommon and I feel white is a super common repaint among this era of car. I might actually be buried in this car 🙂
  3. My guy tells me that it's the extra prep work and steps that make it cost more; they are going to jamb the car either way.
  4. So my 1970 with the 300hp 350/console/buckets/AC/73,xxx miles was originally paint code 45 (Green Mist), dark green vinyl interior, green vinyl top. Currently all white and it's in the shop and is going down to metal for a repaint and The metallic Green Mist is going to cost an additional $3500 over the non-metallic white. Thoughts? I like the Green Mist, how common is it? Am I doing significant things to the value by going back to factory? Thanks!
  5. I guess the goop broke down on one side but not the other; I feel like it's a miracle that there were connections being made in there that weren't causing intermittent problems. I am through most of this now but several of the wires that got sent with the gauge kit are way too short and I'm having to splice them. Thanks everyone for the insight.
  6. Happy Saturday! So I'm installing the idiot light to gauge conversion and have to add some wires to the forward lamp harness connector. Please see the pics below, not sure what happened here but I am assuming that both sides should be relatively clean instead of black gook? Not sure if this is dielectric grease or leaking brake fluid from the past or something else. I think I am going to try brake cleaner on this on both the firewall side and the plug side. Any suggestions here?
  7. Hi Rob, 54 ohms to ground on the tan wire in the trunk, 54 ohms to ground on the tan wire at the body side of the Fischer plug. So I guess my problem is somewhere between the dash side of that plug and the gauge, or with the gauge itself? It looks like there is a plug in the back of where the fuel gauge is, on the upper part towards the driver's side. Thanks, Tom
  8. So I pulled the dash pad on my 1970 Monte so that I could troubleshoot the gas gauge, and on the underside it has a "71". See crazy photo. Does this mean the dashpad was, oh, I don't know, from a 1971 car? Or does it mean something else? Or does it mean nothing at all? The gauge had sort of worked-ish but now is sitting firmly at 3-o'clock. I measure 54 ohms to ground from the tan wire at the plug near the fuse box, which is the same measurement I got on the tan wire in the trunk to ground, which seems reasonable. Any insights welcome, I haven't disconnected the plug on the back of the gauge yet because I'm a big scaredy-cat.
  9. Tom here...Pretty excited to own my second Monte Carlo, the first was when I was 18 and this one is much nicer! 1970 originally Sea Mist/Dark Green/Green Vinyl, now white, 350/4bbl, numbers matching with buckets and console. I haven't taken many pictures myself yet so I attached some from the eBay auction where I found the car. 72,xxx original miles. I have the protecto-plate, window stickers, build sheet, owner's manual, consumer guide...all just gravy for me as I just wanted a Monte again. I bought it and drove it home (about 80 miles) with no issues. It looks pretty original to me which is what I wanted. Looking forward to benefiting from all the knowledge and resources on firstgenmc.com. Thanks.
