Daryl Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 What am I missing? I just got all my valve train stuff and it looks like my locks are ridding too high. At this height the rocker will be ridding on the lock and not the valve tip. Is this set made for lash caps? [img:left]http:// [/img] Quote
ripleydale Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I don't know what you're missing but I think you're right to question it. I looked at some old pics of my rebuilt heads and without the rockers, the valve stem is definitely higher than the surrounding lock keepers. Quote
bobsmc Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 looks like the locks r upside down the taper should go down into the spring topper Quote
Daryl Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 I double checked and I got them right side up. I then got a hold of Dell West and it looks like they sent me locks for valves with a tip length of .300 and I have .250. Is the .300 length the norm for the performance world and titanium retainers? This is the first HI Po motor I've built so I don't know. They said they will send out a new set right away so it looks like I've gotta wait a few more days again before the 489 comes to life. Note to future self, verify valve tip length! Thanks for the input guys. Quote
footballubet Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Glad they verified what was wrong and are making it right. Quote
Mike 57 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 .300 is not the norm for chevy performance valves .250 tip length is fine. I don't know why you would want to add length above the lock it seems that it would just add weight, unless you were trying to correct a geometry issue. Did you get spring locators or steel shims to go between the valves and the heads? The springs will eat into the aluminum. Quote
Daryl Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 I bought locators for the springs. I also figured that I will need a set of shims to get the correct seat pressure. I am going off pressure instead of install hieght for the seat set up. Quote
Daryl Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 Got my new locks in 4 days. Locks are good now! Quote
