Cam57 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 We are disassembling the engine and when we pulled the oil pan off, we found a bunch of small pieces of white plastic in the pan. There was a bunch of these pieces sucked up into the oil pick-up screen. Has anyone seen this kind of thing before and know what these pieces of plastic are from? Thanks, Craig Quote
Leghome Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Kind of looks like part of a timing gear to me. I have never pulled an oil pan from a car that had the timing gear go but that sure looks likes pcs. of one Quote
Cam57 Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 That makes sense. It must have had a nylon faced timing gear. The one that was on it now is steel, so it must have been replaced at some point. Quote

Sam (Bones) Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 upper timing gear, stock ones are nylon covered distributor gears are steel Quote
footballubet Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I used to see a bunch of those top timing gears stripped like that years ago. Very few mechanics tore the oil pan off to clean that out...me included. Quote
