We are disassembling the engine and when we pulled the oil pan off, we found a bunch of small pieces of white plastic in the pan. There was a bunch of these pieces sucked up into the oil pick-up screen. Has anyone seen this kind of thing before and know what these pieces of plastic are from?

Thanks, Craig

Kind of looks like part of a timing gear to me. I have never pulled an oil pan from a car that had the timing gear go but that sure looks likes pcs. of one

That makes sense. It must have had a nylon faced timing gear. The one that was on it now is steel, so it must have been replaced at some point.

This or could also be the distributor gear.

I used to see a bunch of those top timing gears stripped like that years ago. Very few mechanics tore the oil pan off to clean that out...me included. whistle
