Looks like I might be hanging onto the car after all and doing my swap I wanted. Looking to do a LS motor with a 6l80e (4l80e if I have to) but need to find out if I'm going to run into tunnel issue's with clearance. Or is there someplace that would have the complete dimensions of both these?

Here is a little info on the 6L80 looks like a big trans with a really deep first gear and two overdrives.

Thanks for the info but I was looking more along the lines of dimensions and has anyone tried this in a A-body car I guess. Checked out a lot on line but no montes from what Ive seen, and hardly even a chevelle

Looking around more and more I'm wondering if I should stick with the 4l80? Seems like a super big chore to get a 6 speed in...

I am sure you have looked at the TCI 6 speed in the 4l80 case. I don't think it has engine braking, but it is an option. A little pricey though.

Has a 6l80e been swapped into a a-body successfully? I've looked everywhere but no info really.

Call Bowtie Overdrives. They sell them all and have likely had the experience you are looking for. They will walk you through the best option for what you are looking for. They will be able to tell you the hurdles that need to be addressed.

You also may want to check into a Gear Vendors Overdrive to put behind a 700R4 or 200-4R or even a built Turbo 400 for gear splitting ability (in essence more gears). From my memory a 4L80 is a Turbo 400 with Overdrive (6L80 (?)). Not usually the transmission of choice due to it being much a heavier unit than the more common 700R4 or 200-4R.
