So I whent too a 4spd in my restoration used too be a auto. I bought the 4spd hump http://www.opgi.com/monte-carlo/1970/sheet-metal-body-panels/floor-pans/A62551C/

 

Having trouble with fitment. The hump only really sits one place not much for adjustment. Shifter seems way off. It's too far too the left anyone do a conversion that has advice? I'm doing console so I bought the hump required for the console

You have the hump for the 4 speed with console. When I did mine, I was able to line up the hump using the automatic console, and it fit into the floor very well. The hole lined up perfectly for the shifter. There are some pics in this link.

Nice right up Kelly! My hump is the same one and it is shaped too fit the tunnel it's hard too mess up but looming online looks lime I may have the wrong shifter and handle fml lol. 200 bucks I didn't have too spend.... The one I have comes straight up off the left side of tranny looks like original hangs over too the right?

no, that handle is for a bench seat, Hurst does make a shifter and handle for Chevelle/Montes, you probably have the correct shifter but wrong handle

Changed my 70 from console horseshoe shifter to 4 speed, that shifter has to move toward center about 4", made my guy redo it twice to get things centered correctly. Used a comp + Hurst with bolt on shift arm. It works well, can power shift if needed.

Hey Sam, that one would work for a bench, I checked application it won't work for a centre console I need a handle that curves too the right kinda looks like the one in the link from opgi may be the right one. Says it's for a centre console

Matt, I had the same problem with the factory tunnel and an early Hurst shifter. The opening in the console is relatively narrow so shifting into reverse (always necessary to park the car with factory ignition interlock linkage), caused the shift lever to press hard against the left side of the console opening. Fortunately, it was a bolt-on lever so I was able to insert two half-inch spacers and use longer bolts to get the same offset to the right that is built in to the shifter shown by OPGI.

 

For strength and safety, I used Grade 5, fine thread bolts, ground the ends flush with the lever and torqued them down pretty tight. Now I have minimum clearance in Reverse (as shown below) and good clearance in all the forward gears.

Unless you have pretty long arms, I'd be careful about the total amount of right curvature or offset. Even the 1/2" offset I used was noticeable during normal driving. Some levers probably offer the offset below and then curve or angle back toward the driver for easier reach. I believe that's also the case with the factory Muncie shift lever.

Got some pictures! Let me know if you see why I may be having an issue, hump doesn't even wanna sit on the tunnel due too the base of the shifter sticking up so high

Just curious....what cross member are you using for trans support and what's the height of the trans mount? I think, the stock mount is 1.9" ????

Your mount is the same height as stock. As you suspected, your shifter is not compatible with your replica transmission hump. Of course, there are other shifters that will fit under the "stock" hump, including Muncie and at least some Hurst models like the one shown below. Sorry I don't know the exact model of Hurst it is but my records show it was installed in 1974 so it may not even be available today.

So I originally looked up that shifter you showed me and according too summits application check it won't work with a centre console I'll look again though when I get home

I went to the HURST web site, it's much cheaper at summit than buying it from HURST

Sorry for questioning I just don't wanna order too canada and it doesn't work I've had a lot of headache with that kinda thing lately
