72jrfan88 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Hello all. My monte has a 350 with 4brl quadrajet. Mine is stamped "manufactured by carter" on it. All the numbers are present and decoded it to be stock from what I understand. Anyone know about this and is there any differences from the one rochester makes? It is almost like carter helped rochester out at some point. Any ideas are appreciated Quote
Sam (Bones) Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Quadrajets were produced by both companies for GM Quote
Murphy Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Hey Eric, I recall reading somewhere in my Quadrajet research that Carter was basically contracted to help with supply issues as Rochester couldn't keep up with the demand. Are they exact copies, I couldn't say........... Quote
overdrive Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Sam and Murphy are right. I have a great book about Quadrajets. In the late '60s, the Rochester Products division of General Motors wasn't able to keep up with the production demands. The Carter Corporation was contracted to meet the demands and their carburetors are identical to the Rochester, other than the name. Â Dan Quote
wallaby Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 There was also a period of time here recently when Edelbrock was making them as well. I think those may have some engineering "improvements", but were manufactured using the original tooling. The Edelbrock Q-jet was meant to be an aftermarket performance upgrade for people looking to replace their tired original carb. I find it interesting how long the design was in use. Quote
