overdrive Posted November 18, 2019 Author Posted November 18, 2019 Thank you to all of you. The idiot was on the news the other day. He was arrested on drug charges. Selling meth and cocaine. I hope he's off the road for a long time. Dan 2 Quote
overdrive Posted January 13, 2020 Author Posted January 13, 2020 Thanks Jared. Cold and snowy outside now. Remembering back to October, and looking forward to April. Dan 2 Quote

Surprisingly, I was able to reshape and save all of the bumper brackets without messing up any of the powder coating. I'm taking the car to a guy that does paintless dent repair. He can probably take care of the quarter panel dent. If so, that'll save me alot of work, money, and time. The adjuster reported a little over $5300 for repairs. The rear axles are now leaking, 8 miles after the wreck. The adjuster said if I need anything more than new seals, call him and he'd write up a supplement for whatever I need to fix it. Hagerty called and the check should be here in a few days. I spent about a half hour straightening and putting the license plate bracket back together. I'm glad to be able to save it, since it has the original dealership sticker on it. The hinge pin had been ripped out of the collars it fits in. I'll blast it and repaint. Dan i would like to know if those screws are number 8 and is this similiar to what original look like? Quote
overdrive Posted February 5, 2020 Author Posted February 5, 2020 I'm not sure about the screw size, but the rubber part is very close to the original part. Dan 1 Quote

I bought 2 identical bodies for $15, and built the best one for my high school car. I kept that one for 26 years. We also have a '57 Nomad and a '57 210 DelRay Club Coupe. It's a disease. Jared, I can think of 3 other members on this forum that also have tri-fives. One afternoon, after an extensive search, I finally found the build sheet for the SS, inside the rear seat, while I was taking it apart to paint the springs and install new covers. The car has a good amount of options. A title search showed it was shipped from the Van Nuys, CA plant to the Leeds plant in Kansas City, MO. From there it went to the Pappas Chevrolet dealership in Kansas City, MO in June of '70. It was not sold until June of '72, and the first owner kept it until July of '95. The title search was cheap and it's pretty interesting information. I encourage others to get one, if they don't have the history of their car. I've restored the dash, steering column, console, shifter, pedal assemblies, etc. Dan Quote
overdrive Posted January 12, 2021 Author Posted January 12, 2021 The rear view is one of my favorite photos that I have. I'm doing a few small jobs on the SS this winter. I've replaced the air cleaner with one of better quality, replaced the original starter with a high torque Chevrolet starter, and converted the taillights to LED. 20200926_220827.mp4 6 Quote

DragCat Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Looks GREAT ! I did the LED tail lights too, I think the only non drivetrain mod I made last year. I'm very pleased with them! 2 Quote
overdrive Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 The show season was still a little slow for 2021, due to Covid, but I made it to 5 or 6, and a half dozen cruise ins. I was lucky to find and buy an NOS load leveling compressor that was still in the box, but it had the short tank. I found another compressor with the right tank and had the tank replated to match the factory color it still had. It works nice. I also traded for a really nice, original spare tire and wheel and put it in the trunk. I need to switch it to a 7" Rally wheel. Dan 6 Quote
MC1of80 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Ahhh! That's an original bias ply tire! Nice find on the nos compressor. Tank looks great! Car looks great!!!! 2 Quote

overdrive Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Thanks everyone! I have a small list of things to do this winter. One of them is repaint in the trunk. I found a spatter paint that is suppose to match the original very well. It's from Thornton Reproductions in Pennsylvania. They specialize in Oldsmobiles. Dan Quote
overdrive Posted May 28, 2022 Author Posted May 28, 2022 The spatter paint I bought isn't a great match for the factory applied paint, so I didn't spray it in the trunk. I forgot to post earlier that I replaced the reproduction cushion grip steering wheel last summer with an original 15" cushion grip. It's in excellent condition and I really like it. I had some decent looking original wheel center caps, but I went ahead and put some new ones on. They look good. I was able to take a ride to town last evening and the car ran great. This was only the third time out this year. The weather has been pretty crappy on my days off. Got a few new pics. Dan 5 Quote
