What about the other green and black wires? Then there's the blue and black wires heading towards the trunk on the passenger side floor Quote
stangeba Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I do not have the optional rear window defogger on my 71. I do have the power (electric) trunk release option on my 71. (looking for the colors) If this is any help, it is a picture of the plug that goes to my 1971 OEM Stereo. 3 Quote
Dtret Posted July 6 Posted July 6 All the greens and blacks are for the two rear speakers. If it had rear defogger it would just be one wire going to power that( the ground comes off the defogger motor. The blues could be trunk release, I’m not sure. If you don’t have a button in the glove box it’s not for the release. It’s not included in the main harness to the rear ( driver side) so it goes down the passenger side. It’s an added option. 3 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Thanks for the info Dennis! My 72 didn't have a rear defogger either. I'll trace all those wires up under the dash to see where they go so I will know what each connector goes to. 2 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I got most of the floor covered with sound deadener/insulation and then I glued the sides of the new headliner this evening. 13 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I got the new rear package tray installed and I glued the two rear corners of the headliner down this evening. 10 Quote
SPLATT71MC Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Well nothing done to the Monte but did some logo designs for my Facebook group. 13 Quote

I'd get one to turn out really nice but find a glaring mistake so I would have it corrected and the quality would go in the toilet. Then it would take a few tries to get the quality back but I'd end up with a different design altogether. 12 hours ago, Dtret said: Nice. Good luck with the group. I've had the group going for a couple years now but I'm about the only one that posts anything which is mostly posting upcoming cars shows, swap meets and progress on my car. 4 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Steve, I'm a member of your group. I'll start posting 1st gen Monte stuff on there and be more consistent in being on the page. I had forgotten about your page until I saw your post a couple days ago. Tonight, I installed the new rear bumper, the old bumper brackets, new license plate light, and plugged it and the reverse lights back up to the wiring harness. It's just for the work in progress category at the local car show this Saturday. 5 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Can someone please post a photo of how the front marker light harnesses are ran down through the inner fenders? I installed metal inner fenders years ago, and I assume that I must need to drill new holes for them to go down to the marker lights. Thanks! Quote

72 Monte Carlo Posted July 13 Posted July 13 This evening I installed my new Moog CC507 rear coil springs with new isolators, and I installed the new UMI rear upper and lower control arms. 7 Quote

Having never done the rear control arms of a Monte Carlo before, it was just a learning process. It was a challenge to get the taller CC507 coil springs in due to them being taller than the stock springs. 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 13 Posted July 13 The trick is disconnecting the driveshaft..... I did the spring/spacer swap a few months ago. Everything drops further that way. The control arms were switched when I swapped in the 12 bolt about 4 years ago. The one thing I did notice is that the clearances for the exhaust pipes got tighter. 2 Quote

Have fun, I would even go on a half hour drive one way and see what you think of it. 4 Quote

I didn't disconnect the driveshaft. I just used a big pry bar to pull down at the same time of working the coil springs over the lower mount humps. The first axle bushing I drilled holes in the rubber and burnt it with a fire wrench, and then took a cold chisel to dent the rear of the sleeve and then knocked it out with the 4 lb hammer. The 2nd bushing I drilled out the rubber, and then cold chiseled the sleeve and knocked it out with the 4 lb hammer. I put the new bushings/sleeves in the freezer for one hour at 5° and they went in easier with the dead blow and 4 lb hammer. 46 minutes ago, 420ponies said: Well, how do you like the new look? I had to go buy a grease gun to grease the zerks. I put 9 lbs of air into the new Monroe maxi ride air shocks. 5 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I just bought a new 18v One+ Ryobi pressure washer so I can clean the 53 yr old grime off the undercarriage of the Monte. 2 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted July 13 Posted July 13 This is how tall my Monte sat with the air shocks maxed out on the stock 72 Monte rear coil springs. 4 Quote
