Changed out the battery. Wasn't having issues, always disconnect when it's in the garage. But the sticker said 2/19 so figured it was time. Plus I like their customer service 🤣

Do not go by the sticker.  Normally this is the last time the battery is charged.  You can by a 2-year old NEW Battery with a sticker.

Alway check along the case for a melted in date.  Normally it is along the top edge.  B25 (Feb 2025).

Whenever purchase a new battery, the date code is a must.  Unless they sell you a battery with the acid on the side like they used to do.  But then again, we did not have people eating tide soap pods back then either!

Princess Auto sells these plastic things that you can shape inside the wheelwells to keep that rubber off the quarters.....

They're supposed to be easy to install.  :k

Ok I did a couple things here recently:

1. Wednesday July 30th, I had a 2300-2400 RPM stall converter installed, flashes at 2700 RPM (no pictures of it, but what a difference, it sure needed it, the stock was way to tight) - huge difference, immediately!

2. Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd, began and completed the intake manifold change out from a standard Edelbrock Performer 2101 to a Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap 7501 and 160 thermostat, new coolant etc. - man did this make a huge difference coupled with the new stall - other manifold was way too small for my 406 CID small block

3. Changed the vacuum secondary spring from the standard natural color to the next lightest Purple spring - it needed that too, now it's matched perfectly and opens up the secondaries when they are needed and not delayed

4. Installed a transmission cooler today, Sunday August 3rd, topped off the fluid accordingly - this will keep the tranny temps in good shape along with the new stall converter.

Thanks, Matt

While at the Carlisle show I had a problem with my rear sway bar after I had installed the rear coil over relocation kit from UMI Performance. Seems it moves the stock style rear sway (1 1/4"Dia.),way low from the rear axle. Checked with UMI and was told I had the wrong sway bar (even though it came in a kit),but I had purchased that sway many years ago before the coil over swap.  They have the correct bar now in their kit. So, as we were sitting bench racing,  I raise the question and a member says " I have what you need" . So , at the Syracuse show he brings the correct style rear sway bar with him, and Gives it to me! . Says " I don't need it , put it on your car". I just installed it and Man, does it plant the tires now!  It's a Hellwig 1 3/8"Dia. bar, that mounts onto the axle and upper control arm crossmember(that was a job getting those brackets in),but came out perfect. On the front ends of the sway bar it has 3 locations for the heim joints to be bolted into for different settings (furthest to the front, street driving),really makes a difference in handling.

Are you running the stock rear-end gears?

Stuckin70's, Not sure if you were asking me, but if you are here it is:

I recently had the peg leg 2.73 gears removed and a Posi unit installed along with 3.08 gears (12 bolt)

My next project (after my Right Hip replacement) I am going to install a  Gear Vendor Over Drive.

Right now I love how improved the Monte is with the recent upgrades, 3.08 posi rear, stall converter, Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap manifold and 1/2" open spacer.

Once the Gear Vendor OD is done I will be able to cruise on the highway with a OD of 2.40 final drive - that is going to be sweet!

Thanks,Matt

Yes,  I was asking.  I added a different Edelbrock cam, carb, intake. Went from 9 to 13 mpg. I am currently frame off deciding if I want to change transmissions for overdrive but would have to change the moon gear in the rear in as well. Thank you.

I don't want to go 700R4 or 2004R OD transmissions, so I have fully decided to go with the Gear Vendor OD. They are practically bullet proof and coupled with my already built TH350, stall and 3.08's I am really going to enjoy the performance and cruising.

Thanks, Matt

Hey Brad, just for reference if you decide to go the O.D.

Montelishi's 350 is set up pretty much the same way your's is and I went with the 200r4 and 3.31 gears in a 12 bolt.

The nice part was that there isn't much to change with the swap..... Just had to relocate the cross member and trim the balance weight at the transmission end of the driveshaft. Also the T.V. cable and a switched power supply for the lock up torque converter needed to be added. Otherwise, it's a straight bolt in. :)

With the 0.67 to 1 O.D., my final gear is 2.22 to 1, and I'm getting 23 mph/gal (imp) on the highway.

Just thought I'd let you know how much mine added. ;)

What have I done today??

In 2017, I moved out from a really tiny long term storage garage and into a nice and easily accessed two car garage. Power but no heat or water. I made it a nice shop.

By summer 2018, I got the 496 with TH400 running on a basic EFI system, finished the interior  and console, new brakes, tires, gas tank and I registered it and enjoyed it for a few months.

The motor had too big heads, a solid roller cam and roller lifters-because that’s what we did in the 1990's. The valve springs had to be 500 pounds. It made 600 HP & 600 pound-feet of torque.

The Crower lifters were their first gen rollers and one broke, chewing down the cam and sending junk into the pan.

OH, back to today!

Motor is rebuilt with modern, smaller big oval port heads, even bigger cam but hydraulic now with 350 pound springs and needleless Isky roller lifters, 11 to compression. I’m hoping it’ll hit 700HP. I’ve designed and built a power distro/relay box and I’m upgrading to a MegaSquirt LS style EFI system. I have a nice 4l80E four speed that’ll get some upgrades to replace the old 3 speed. There’s a Vintage Air under dash system and Dakota Digital kit waiting for me to drop the dash. American Racing Headers watch from the side.

I suffered a bad fall in January shattering an elbow and just had a knee replaced and finances are short so everything gets done in small steps. I hope the car will be drive able next year.

The important thing is that you take care of yourself, the car can wait ( it’s only going up in value) but it looks like you’re heading in the right direction. Don’t worry about going slow because you are still going way faster than me. lol.
