DragCat Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Weekend wrap up. Living between 2 college towns and graduations this weekend I pretty much stayed close to home. So didnt take the Monte out for a run. Friday did all my post hibernation checks and fired her up 😁 Checked the oil gauge and then double checked the fuel gauge , thanks Glen 🤣 Hopefully this week I'll get a cruise in but looks like more rain ☹️ When I was in FL, saw some GREEN Adirondack chairs at HD for $20, thought they'd be nice in VA so waited till I got in town. Well, no green, or black in stock anywhere ☹️ Checked out Tractor Supply and they had blue and red, AND with cup holders. Thought the blue looked faded so went with red, test drove them tonight 🤣 They don't handle the old school foam koozies well but I had a new style red coozie from Carlisle last year and fit fine. 10 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted May 20 Posted May 20 15 hrs of sanding the rear deck lid and deck lid seal area above the trunk, the front headlight extensions, and rear tail light extensions, all down to bare metal in prep for the epoxy primer. 11 Quote

Looks great. I don’t have the patience for that kind of work but the results sure are gratifying. 4 Quote
Marks71 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Nice work, and I like your method for holding the hinges down and out of the way. 3 Quote

I have too many projects with parts and pieces in my shop at the moment to worry about cleaning the floor. My house and (insulated, heated, and AC) shop were built in 2018. 4 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted May 21 Posted May 21 I stripped the factory paint from the rear marker light recesses, the rear deck lid key cylinder hole, and ran a DA sander over all the bare metal on the car. I only need to clean the two sides of the rear quarter panels where the tail light extensions mount to, then the major sanding is finished until we start to block and sand the car. 7 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted May 21 Posted May 21 On a side note, I did see a 72 Monte in Walla Walla Washington which is 20 miles from where I live. A guy was driving it in a different direction than what I was traveling, so I didn't get a chance to talk to him. It was cool to see another first gen Monte Carlo local to me. It was Blue with a White vinyl top, and it looked to be in really nice condition. 7 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I got the factory 53 year old paint, primer, and sealer off the PITA back end last night. It will get new sealer put back on in all the seams/joints like how it was from the factory. 8 Quote

Stuckin70s Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Looks fantastic. Your not alone on the A/C, I saw a fellow purchase an A6 compressor this afternoon at the Springfield Car and Parts swap meet this afternoon. Great turnout at the Fairgrounds, lot of people going back to the car with their arms full. Well, except one dude... he had a trailer on the pack of his power chair! Admission was only $10 this time. I wonder if it was because it is Friday and Saturday only? Regardless, she looks good Andrew. Thank you for sharing. Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted May 24 Posted May 24 My car is finally ready for the high build primer/sealer, which I think we're spraying on it tomorrow. 13 Quote

McCall72 Posted May 27 Posted May 27 The SS needed some love so I gave it a good cleaning and replaced the console shifter plate trim piece. 11 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Today, I reorganized the shop after the epoxy primer being sprayed last Saturday. That took about 3-4 hours. Then, I donned the respirator and removed the 53 year old sound deadener from the ceiling in my 72 Monte. That took 2-1/2 hours, but it's done now. Tomorrow I'll install the new silver backed sound deadener/insulation, and then glue the insulation for the new headliner to it. 8 Quote
Stuckin70s Posted June 1 Posted June 1 It "fell off"! Silly me I thought I was going to repair it... FYI, both sides have been on back order since March. Considering the work it would be to repair, $160 for the pair is reasonable. Onto the frame in while we wait. It started with a little inspection hole! ☺️ ught 3 Quote

Dtret Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Just a thought on the frame repair washers. I was going to do that on my 70 frame but didn’t because I thought it may throw off all the panel alignment if I did just a few. Sometimes to think about. Is it an all ( 12 holes) or nothing deal. Just curious. 2 Quote
