7tonemonte Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 What does anyone with aftermarket wheels have the lugs torqued to? Great time to ask as I've been driving now for a month or so! Quote
LostnFound Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Others will know better than I Tony but I believe it is 100 lbs. The other important thing is to do a re-torque within the following few days. That's what I've been told by my guy here at least. Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I want to say 85 or 90 but I've always gone to 100 and with new wheels they say to check the torque after 200 miles. Quote
7tonemonte Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 I originally put them at 100 and have retorqued them. Just thought 100 may be too high Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 the GM spec is 70 ft lbs. To me that just seems little low especially on aftermarket wheels IMHO Quote
Sam (Bones) Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 over torquing them can stretch and weaken them Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 over torquing them can stretch and weaken them True I aggree with that but I'm still gonna do mine to 100 Quote
7tonemonte Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 can anyone guess how much I tighten mine? 100???? Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Which car I bet you torque them differently? Quote
LostnFound Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 can anyone guess how much I tighten mine? Ummm....until you pee your pants? Quote
Rob Peters Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Ummm....until you pee your pants? And then back them off just a llittle. Rob 1 Quote
monte70car Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We don't torque are wheels just run then down until the impact stops turning and starts the impact mode. I have a neighbor that torque wheels on his wife's Benz one time to 120ftlbs as that is what it called for but he had to do it in three steps. I know with my alum wheels on the 72 they don't say anything about torqueing the lug nuts, so they are just ratchet tight. Quote
7tonemonte Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 I would say Sam just makes them "tight" no spec at all! Quote
Rob Peters Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 If you are concerned about over or under torquing them I would jus check the manufacturers recommended torque specs. Rob Quote
Leghome Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 In my feeble mind the torque specs between steel and aluminum wheels would be different. Is this assumption correct? Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I assume that too which is why I said I bet sam tightens his two cars differently. Quote
black07ss Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 same way I do mine, zip of the gun and about two to three hammer sounds Quote
7tonemonte Posted May 9, 2015 Author Posted May 9, 2015 I expected better out of you perfectionists Quote
LostnFound Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I torque mine until my arthritis says enough. 1 Quote
72MC Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Late to the thread Tony, but I always did my aftermarket stuff to 100 ftlbs. I would turn my air ratchet down a bit and then finish with a 1/2 inch torgue wrench. - Dave Quote
