71MonteCarloMD Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Thanks guys for advices and won't buy this one! Quote
Bluemalibu Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Larry, it was indeed put into econo-boxes like the Chevette and the Opel Kadette. But GM had a brain-fart and also mounted them up in the Riviera, Caprice, and lock-up versions into the Estate Wagon, your Bonneville and the Cadillac Fleetwood! They were quickly destroyed in those big boats, and the General paid out big bucks in lawsuits and with replacing the trans with a TH350 for all that complained. Doug Quote
71MonteCarloMD Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 Guys, was browsing for 200R4 and saw two options, one is stock and other is 2 stage, what are the difference? Quote
Leghome Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I really do not know but to my way of thinking the Stage 2 would be a more heavy duty setup. Quote
420ponies Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 billet servo, plus better bands and clutches, steelies too . these stage 2's can handle up to 450hp. put one in mine this year and really like the difference at 70mph. no more 3000-3200rpm's. down to 2200-2400 rpm's and shifting back to 3rd feels just like the turbo 350 that used to be in it. motor makes 420 hp (vic edlebrock) base motor setup built by me back in '92. dbreese Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I have been toying with the idea of going to a 200-4r. There is a shop in my home town (Tommy Boys Transmissions) that specialize in building this transmission for h/p cars. They are diehard Buick fans and I have seen their cars run at the track. Big ole Skylarks 455 cars on spray and slicks and they hold up really well i.e. nothing broken. They told me that they could build one for the monte for around 1200.00 less the converter. I have invested quite a bit and my th350 along with a great converter and could sell and recoup most of my money. I have a set of 4.30 gears waiting to go in and I think it would be a great gear combo mated to the 200-4r. Just need to figure out the converter as my car idles at 1400 rpm in gear and the engine clears up around 2000 when cruising. 200-4r would get my vote for your needs. David Quote
