Canuck Posted August 27, 2002 Posted August 27, 2002 Have you guys repainted your vinyl roof trim. If so, what kind of paind is best. Does anything stick to the trim? The original paint was chipping off so I stripped all of it. It looks good but it is not original. ------------------ Aaron Dodsworth Langley, BC Canada Misty turquoise 1970 Monte Carlo 73,000 miles My Monte Carlo Web Site
David Mau Posted August 27, 2002 Posted August 27, 2002 That's a good question, Aaron. My car had all of the black trim paint off of it when I bought it, too. The white car that I saw at the Super Chevy Show on Saturday had its vinyl top trim apparently repainted. It was very well done. Although simply having it stripped off like our cars currently are looks fine, the black inline paint on the trim IS correct, and it does add some nice detailing. Whatever the best kind of paint to use could also possibly be used to re-do the interior horizontal door and rear quarter trim black detail striping, too. Thanks, Dave
Canuck Posted August 28, 2002 Author Posted August 28, 2002 I have done the interior trim but I just make sure nobody touches it. The vinyl roof trim is out in the elements. I used this stuff called 'Trim Paint' on the interior trim. It said that it sticks to stainless steele and chrome but it only comes in black. I also used it on the lower body trim last year and so far so good. I need white for my vinyl trim. ------------------ Aaron Dodsworth Langley, BC Canada 1970 Monte Carlo Aaron's Monte Carlo Web Site
Guest Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 Aaron, I've been considering stripping and repainting mine as well. I have a brown color on my trim . I was going to go to home depot and get some aluminum siding spray paint in dark brown and try it out. I used white on my house to touch up some scratches a few years ago and it is holding out just fine. I haven't done it on the car yet, but it sounds like it would work ..........right?
Canuck Posted August 28, 2002 Author Posted August 28, 2002 Good luck. Let me know how it works for you. I'm probably going to do it next spring when I have the time. Come september, I'm in school full time and work 30hrs a week. I can't start that project now. ------------------ Aaron Dodsworth Langley, BC Canada 1970 Monte Carlo Aaron's Monte Carlo Web Site
